■ First on-device AI ‘real-time interpretation’
The Galaxy S24 series is the first to feature an on-device AI-based 'Live Translate' function. It can be used without going through the cloud (server), and uses the basic 'phone' app without having to download a separate app.
The 'real-time translation' function is provided for the first time in the series in the basic text app and major domestic and foreign mobile messenger apps. Real-time translation is done through the 'Samsung Keyboard' with on-device AI technology applied. There is no need for another translation app, typos can be easily corrected, and the AI also includes a function that suggests phrases based on the message recipient. Both interpretation and text support 13 languages.
The Galaxy S24 series also improves features that enhance work productivity. In particular, the voice recording function has been improved. When recording with the basic 'recording' app, 'STT (Speech-to-text)' technology separates the voices of up to 10 presenters and provides a script for each. Users can summarize or translate the script to work more efficiently.
In addition, through collaboration with Google, the 'Circle to Search' search function is being installed for the first time. When searching while surfing the web, using SNS, or on YouTube, users can summon generative AI by drawing a circle on any screen to search and check the results as if having a conversation. The Galaxy S24 series provides the 'Note Assist' function, which summarizes text written by users in the Samsung Notes app and converts it to a template.
■ Galaxy S24 Ultra, equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 3rd generation
The Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus are equipped with Samsung Electronics' Exynos 2400, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra is equipped with Qualcomm's 'Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform for Galaxy' AP.
Qualcomm's chipset, optimized for Galaxy, provides excellent 'NPU (Neural Processing Unit)' performance, enabling efficient processing of AI.
However, the Galaxy S24 and S Plus are equipped with the Exynos 2400, which had a lower Geekbench score than the Snapdragon 8 2nd generation. In the previous model, the Exynos 2200 was also replaced entirely due to overheating issues. Because of this, the price difference between the Ultra and basic models is expected to be noticeable.
Gaming performance has been improved through HW and SW optimization. The heat dissipation system has been optimized with the 'Vapor Chamber', which is up to 1.9 times larger than the Ultra standard, to support stable gameplay for a longer period of time.
The Galaxy S24 series has significantly improved both outdoor visibility and durability of the display. The display’s maximum brightness is 2,600 nits, the brightest of any Galaxy series. With the ‘Vision Booster,’ you can enjoy clear content even under strong sunlight.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra’s front display is newly equipped with Corning® Gorilla® Armor. It reduces light reflection by up to 75% compared to regular glass and also improves durability. In addition, an adaptive refresh rate of 1-120Hz has been applied to all series.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the first in the series to use titanium material in its frame. It also features a flat display, reducing thickness compared to its predecessor and providing an improved grip.
The Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 have a One-mass design, with thinner and more even bezels on the display. The S24 Ultra is similar in size to its predecessor, but the display sizes are larger at 169.1mm (6.7 inches) and 156.4mm (6.2 inches), respectively. Also, the battery is the same as its predecessor at 5000mAh for the S24 Ultra, 4000mAh for the S24, and 4900mAh for the S24+.
■ Equipped with AI-based provisual engine
The 'Galaxy S24 series' is equipped with the AI-based 'ProVisual Engine'. It provides even more stable image quality, from the zoom function to 'Nightography'.
The 'Galaxy S24 Ultra' provides 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x zoom in high quality through the 'Quad Tele System'. The 50-megapixel 'Adaptive Pixel' sensor that supports 5x zoom and AI technology provide high quality up to 10x zoom. An improved digital experience is provided up to 100x zoom. The Galaxy's night camera function, 'Nightography', has also been improved.
In particular, the Galaxy S24 Ultra's 5x optical zoom camera is equipped with 1.4 micrometer (μm) sized pixels that are approximately 60% larger than those of its predecessor, allowing it to receive more light even in dark environments. It also prevents hand shaking through OIS that supports a wider angle, providing clear, shake-free photos and videos.
The Galaxy S24 series is equipped with a dedicated 'ISP (Image Signal Processing) Block' on both the rear and front cameras. Effectively reduces noise in low-light video shooting environments.
The Galaxy AI-based 'Gallery' app editing function further enhances the perfection. The 'Edit Suggestion' function analyzes the photo with AI and suggests customized editing tools to the user. It suggests necessary functions such as 'Remove Shadows and Glare' first.
Based on generative AI, we are introducing a new ‘generative edit’ function. If the photo is slightly tilted or the background is cut off, AI fills in the image of part of the object that was cut off. Meanwhile, all images created based on generative AI display copyright as a ‘watermark’ on both the image itself and metadata (attribute information).
Additionally, the 'Instant Slow-mo' function is applied to the captured video, and AI additionally generates new frames based on the subject's movement between frames of the captured video. This provides a more natural slow motion playback effect.
The Galaxy S24 series offers Super HDR image quality not only for shooting, but also for viewing in the gallery and social media experience. Users can check the subject in the same Super HDR image quality as the shooting result from the preview screen before shooting, and the vividness and contrast are applied in the gallery as in real life after shooting.
The Galaxy S24 series can take high-quality photos at the same level as the basic camera, even when taking photos using the in-app camera on social media platforms such as Instagram. You can also share photos and videos to your Instagram feed or Reels in Super HDR quality.
■ Samsung Knox, Strengthening Security in the AI Era
The Galaxy S24 series is based on 'Samsung Knox'. Samsung Electronics said that there is no possibility of call contents being leaked outside the phone.
The Galaxy S24 series uses a mix of on-device AI and cloud AI. For cloud AI features where user data passes through online servers, we provide users with the option to block data in bulk in ‘Enhanced Intelligence Settings’, ensuring autonomous choice and control over security and privacy.
'Passkey' based on Knox Matrix is a digital certificate that replaces existing passwords, allowing access to registered websites and apps without a password, providing more secure usability.
Additionally, when users back up, sync, and restore data to Samsung Cloud, they can safely link and use the data across multiple devices through 'End-to-End Encryption (E2EE).'
■ Expanding recycled materials... Contributing to sustainability
The Galaxy S24 series, following its predecessor, expanded the types of recycled materials used in the device and upgraded the OS.
The Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S24+ use batteries that use 50% recycled cobalt. The speakers of the Galaxy S24 series use 100% recycled rare earth elements and over 40% recycled steel. Recycled TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) is used in some of the side keys and volume keys of the devices.
Starting with the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung Electronics will provide seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. This helps users enjoy and use the best experience for a longer period of time by extending the product life cycle.
