A great achievement following the Presidential Award for Green Management and the Prime Minister’s Award for the Republic of Korea Safety Award
SK Specialty (CEO Lee Kyu-won) has been recognized for its achievements in the resource and climate sectors, including a 98% waste recycling rate and carbon footprint certification for its main products.
SK Specialty announced that it received the Prime Minister's Award for 'Leading Company in Circular Economy' at the 16th Resource Recycling Day ceremony held at Busan Metropolitan City Hall on the 6th.
The 'Circular Economy Leading Company' award is given by the Korea Environment Corporation to eco-friendly companies that have contributed to the transition to a sustainable circular economy society through waste reduction and recycling promotion.
SK Specialty has been recognized as a company with the highest standards in the environment and safety sectors in Korea by winning the Presidential Award for Green Management last year, the Prime Minister’s Award for Safety at the Republic of Korea Awards, and the Prime Minister’s Award for Leading Circular Economy Companies this year.
SK Specialty’s investment in resource circulation has been continuously and steadily promoted. The most notable area is waste recycling.
SK Specialty has continuously invested in facilities that can recycle waste rather than landfill it, while reducing the absolute amount of waste generated in the process by introducing centrifuges and dust compaction facilities and improving water treatment systems.
Through this, the waste recycling rate, which stood at 78% in 2021, was raised to over 98% this year, achieving the result of recycling approximately 21,000 tons of waste annually.
Another achievement that cannot be overlooked is the proactive response to climate change issues. The company declared that it would achieve RE100 and Net Zero simultaneously by 2030, 20 years ahead of the global target, and is continuously implementing strategies to transition to renewable energy and reduce greenhouse gases to achieve this.
In addition, in 2021, the company was the first in the industrial gas industry to obtain carbon footprint certification for tungsten hexafluoride (WF6) and secure environmental performance labeling certification for its main product, nitrogen trifluoride (NF3), thereby disclosing carbon information, thereby practicing active and transparent environmental management.
SK Specialty CEO Lee Kyu-won said, “We have invested more than 3% of our sales to secure capabilities in the areas of safety, health, and the environment, which are essential elements for sustainable growth, and have especially invested a lot of resources in resource circulation to pass on a clean environment to future generations. I am proud that the company’s bold investment and the members’ execution ability have been recognized, and I will not be satisfied with this, but will work even harder to become the world’s best environmentally responsible company.”
