내년도 전력전자학회를 이끌 회장으로 선임된 김학원 한국교통대 교수가 전력전자분야에서 산업계와 대학의 협력관계 강화를 통해 연구개발 및 인력수급 지원 등을 지원하겠다고 비전을 밝혔다.

Professor Kim Hak-won, expert in the field of 'power electronics and energy conversion'
Professor Kim Hak-won of Korea Transport University, who was elected as the president to lead the Power Electronics Society next year, announced his vision to support research and development and human resource supply by strengthening the cooperative relationship between industry and universities in the power electronics field.
On the 25th, the Korean Institute of Power Electronics held its regular general meeting and fall academic conference at the Uiwang Campus of Korea Transport University. At this event, which consisted of 71 academic papers, oral sessions, and poster sessions, Professor Kim Hak-won of Korea Transport University was elected as the new president who will lead the society in 2023.
The oral session included: △Inverter application △Battery application △Converter and industrial application △Safety measurement and control research workshop △Special session, etc. The first floor lobby of the main building was crowded with visitors as a poster session was held.

At the opening ceremony, Lee Taek-ki, the president of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics (professor of electrical and electronic engineering at Hankyung University), said, “The Korean Institute of Power Electronics has achieved sustainable growth both internally and externally,” and “I was able to feel the sense of service and sharing while serving as the president.” President Lee Taek-ki said, “Next year, I will introduce the Korean Institute of Power Electronics to many companies and play the role of an evangelist who spreads the name of the society.”
Professor Kim Hak-won of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Korea National University of Transportation has been selected as the next president to lead the society in 2023. Professor Kim Hak-won worked at the LG Electronics Digital Appliance Research Institute for 18 years and has been a professor at Korea National University of Transportation since 2008, where he has been working hard to nurture future generations and engage in various academic and writing activities.
His major academic publications include: △DC Power Circuit Design and Simulation and △Controller Design using Matlab/Simulink. In addition, he is a power electronics expert with numerous SCI(E) academic papers and research projects.
Among the next executives, Professor Jeong Se-gyo of Gyeongsang National University was appointed as Senior Vice President, and Professor Seo Yong-seok of Jeonbuk National University and Professor Lee Kyo-beom of Ajou University were appointed as Vice Presidents.
Kim Hak-won, the next president of the Korean Institute of Power Electronics, said, “We will establish a long-term cooperative system between the power electronics industry and universities and support R&D and human resources supply and demand.” He also said, “We will work to increase submissions to and citations in academic journals and the Journal of Power Electronics (JPE), and to share a wide range of industrial issues in the journal.”
In addition, he presented a vision that by diversifying the presentation format of the academic conference, including English sessions and young engineers, he would lead to the cultivation of new researchers and increased interest in academic societies among undergraduate and graduate students.

Meanwhile, awards were presented at the event, including the Academic Achievement Award, Academic Award, and Outstanding Paper Award. The Merit Award went to Professor Choi Se-wan of Seoul National University of Science and Technology, the Academic Award went to Professor Ryu Hong-je of Chung-Ang University, and Professor Lee Byeong-guk of Sungkyunkwan University, and the Paper Award went to Jeong Dong-geun and 6 others from the Electrotechnology Research Institute, and Hwang Yun-seong and 5 others from Sungkyunkwan University.
The 16th Power Electronics Product of the Year Awards went to the following recipients: △LG Innotek’s 11.4kW·10kW hybrid solar panel single-phase/three-phase inverter, △Batronics’ battery grading system, △Hyosung’s multi-megawatt multi-channel rapid charging station power conversion system, and △Sky Innotek’s residual current tester.
In addition, awards were given out including the JPE Paper Award, Young Scientist Award, KIPE Academic Conference Outstanding Paper Award, and Solar Energy Paper Award.
