AI Startup SandboxAQ Targets Additional Investment of 500 Billion Dollars
As venture capital (VC) interest in AI startups is increasing, SandboxAQ is also launching another fundraising initiative. According to Bloomberg, this startup, which was established as a spinoff from Alphabet, Google's parent company, is planning to raise additional investment despite already having secured 500 million dollars in early 2023.
SandboxAQ was established in March 2022 as an independent entity from Alphabet's advanced technology development division. In the initial 500 million dollar round, investors including Breyer Capital, T. Rowe Price funds, and Marc Benioff participated. Following the initial investment, the valuation was estimated at 4 billion dollars, and the target valuation for this round is 5 billion dollars.
Jack Hidary, founder and CEO of SandboxAQ, is developing software at the intersection of quantum computing and AI, which is ultimately intended to be applied to molecular modeling and behavior prediction. While Google is developing its own quantum computers, SandboxAQ is providing practical solutions through various partnerships.
Key projects currently underway at the company include research with Novonix to extend lithium-ion battery lifespan, development of a magnetic navigation system with the U.S. Air Force that does not depend on GPS, and collaboration with U.S. hospitals to develop a new AI-based cardiac imaging device called a "magnetocardiography system."
Startup Investment Attractiveness on the Rise
SandboxAQ is focusing on generating data utilizing large quantum models (LQMs), and is setting objectives beyond language prediction. Thanks to this technological capability and potential, many investors are establishing stock-specific special purpose vehicles (SPVs) and seeking to participate in the company.
SandboxAQ is currently not responding to direct comment requests, but is pursuing expansion into various sectors amid expectations for the future. In this context, SandboxAQ is likely to play an important role in the AI industry.
