Building a sustainable manufacturing environment in smart factories around the world

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, a global leader in digital reality solutions combining sensors, software, and autonomous technologies, is leading the way to resource efficiency and carbon neutrality by expanding the use of renewable energy.
Hexagon announced on the 12th that its quarterly magazine 'Engineering Reality', which covers data, collaboration, and automation strategies for manufacturing companies, shared global ESG innovation cases essential to securing competitiveness across the entire manufacturing process, including design, production, and quality control, under the theme of 'sustainability'.
Hexagon has implemented its solutions and equipment in Hexagon Smart Factories located around the world to create a sustainable manufacturing environment.
Hexagon's smart factory in Wetzlar, Germany, uses solar panels and battery storage systems to reduce annual carbon emissions by 60-70% and operates without relying on external energy.
Additionally, the Hongdao factory in Qingdao, China, was certified carbon neutral in 2020, meeting 80% of its total energy requirements with local panels and introducing a rainwater recycling system to promote circular use of water resources.
The Huntsville plant in the United States consumed 1.5 times as much electricity as the previous year.00% of the energy is covered by renewable energy credits and solar power projects are being promoted.
R-evolution, a subsidiary of Hexagon AB, the parent company of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, is growing its greentech business that addresses a range of sustainability challenges, including reducing carbon emissions, introducing renewable energy sources, protecting natural habitats, conserving biodiversity, and eliminating waste.
Alvolution is continuously pursuing innovative partnerships for sustainable change, such as developing solar desalination technology based on its recent partnership with solar water purifier Desolenator, and digitizing data from Spanish solar power plants through collaboration with Google Cloud to improve the efficiency of renewable energy production and reduce carbon emissions.
“Sustainability must be integrated into every step of the process—from design to production, quality management, and reporting,” said Josh Weiss, global president of Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division. “Hexagon is committed to helping manufacturers visualize life cycle impacts at the design stage to reduce resource use and maximize efficiency, helping them achieve future-proof environmental goals.”
Hexagon has adopted the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method in product development, regulatory compliance, and supply chain management to help global manufacturers respond to climate change and improve the sustainability of their manufacturing processes. LCA quantifies the environmental impact of a product and contributes to improving sustainability at all stages, including design, production, and quality management.
