Domestic integrated agency control system localization results, ECS technology independence
Hanwha Systems has developed the core operating system for the Republic of Korea Navy's next-generation frigate, the Ulsan-class FFX Batch-IV, and achieved technological independence in the Integrated Control System (ECS).
Hanwha Systems (CEO Son Jae-il) announced on the 23rd that it had recently won a contract for the 'Ulsan-class FFX Batch-IV No. 1 Ship Integrated Engineering Control System (ECS) System Development Project' hosted by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
This project order is significant in that it is the first case of developing an integrated engine control system (ECS) for a domestic combat ship. The integrated engine control system (ECS) that Hanwha Systems is developing using purely domestic technology is a technology that only some advanced countries such as the US and Italy possess. Until now, our naval vessels have been equipped with different foreign products depending on the type of ship, which has limited domestic follow-up military support and performance improvement.
The Integrated Control System (ECS) is an advanced control device that integrates the propulsion, power, auxiliary equipment, and damage system systems required for ship operation into a single network-based system, enabling the ship to perform its missions stably and efficiently. It is like the 'heart' of the ship. It is considered one of the key systems for realizing the super-intelligence and automation of future ships, along with the combat management system (CMS), the 'brain of the ship' independently developed and domestically produced by Hanwha Systems.
In addition to the Integrated Control System (ECS), Hanwha Systems will also supply various key equipment for the Ulsan-class FFX Batch-IV, including the Combat Management System (CMS), the Multi-Function Phased Array Radar (MFR), the Infra-Red Search and Track (IRST), and the Electro-Optical Tracking System (EOTS).
A Hanwha Systems official said, “Hanwha Systems is the only company in Korea that has advanced-level technology in integrated control systems following combat systems, and we are continuously realizing domestic production of core ship systems.” He added, “ECS is a ‘smart ship core solution’ that can be optimized not only for ships but also for merchant ships, and will lead autonomous navigation and advanced ship platforms.”
