Siemens Digital Industries (DI) Korea is upgrading its small PLCs for the first time in 10 years and is set to make a full-scale foray into the small automation market.

Siemens DI announced that it plans to accelerate its conquest of the small automation market with a high-performance solution that can realize precision automation, along with the domestic launch of the SIMATIC S7-1200 G2, the next-generation small PLC that has been newly upgraded for the first time in 10 years.

The SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 is a product that sets a new automation standard that can handle a wide range of applications from simple control to high-precision applications. It was highlighted as a representative technology that realizes the vision of an industrial paradigm shift presented by Siemens at the 'Hannover Messe 2025', the world's largest industrial technology exhibition held in Hannover, Germany this year.

The SIMATIC S7-1200 G2, introduced this time, is part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio and is a core digital solution that effectively connects operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) to improve productivity.

In particular, through a standardized engineering approach based on the TIA portal, we help customers efficiently solve various challenges such as productivity, flexibility, and cost optimization.

The newly added features meet the needs of machine builders in a rapidly changing industrial environment.It supports single-axis and multi-axis control as well as simple kinematics control to respond to customized flexibility.

Additionally, Near Field Communication (NFC) functionality allows for easy access to diagnostic, operational, and device data from the app, minimizing equipment downtime.

The main strengths of the SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 include: △High-speed processing, dedicated communication performance, and expanded memory enable fast data processing and multitasking; △Provides cost-effective and scalable fail-safe solutions; △Implements high-precision automation suitable for single-axis, coordinate axes, and simple kinematics control; and △Enhances monitoring and analysis efficiency with wireless diagnostics via NFC.

The SIMATIC S7-1200 G2 can only be programmed with the TIA Portal version V20 or higher. The engineering packages for the standard and fail-safe CPUs are included in the STEP 7 Basic license and can be used without a separate additional license. In addition, the high degree of compatibility with existing S7-1200 PLC code allows for a transition with little adjustment.
