Building an AI-based industrial software portfolio
Siemens announced on the 31st that it has completed the acquisition of industrial simulation and analysis software company Altair Engineering Inc. The acquisition size is equivalent to a corporate value of approximately 10 billion dollars, or approximately 14 trillion won in Korean currency.
Through this acquisition, Siemens plans to strengthen its capabilities in mechanical and electromagnetic simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), data analytics, and AI, and expand its leadership in simulation and industrial AI.
Siemens will integrate Altair’s team and technologies to further enhance comprehensive digital twins and make simulation more accessible, helping companies of all sizes bring complex products to market faster.
“With the integration of Altair’s innovative technologies into the Siemens Xcelerator platform, we create the world’s most complete AI-driven design, engineering and simulation portfolio,” said Roland Busch, President and CEO, Siemens AG. “Siemens and Altair are focused on helping our customers innovate at the speed and scale they demand in today’s increasingly complex environment.”
He added that “through Siemens’ ‘One Tech Company’ program, we will expand our leadership in industrial software and enable all industries to benefit from data and AI-driven innovation.”
The Altair acquisition is part of Siemens' "One Tech Company" program and is expected to significantly increase the company's digital revenue mix. Through this growth program, Siemens aims to strengthen its market position and achieve higher levels of performance and value creation.
Siemens said it plans to continue to prioritize R&D investments in areas such as software, AI-enabled products, connected hardware, and sustainability.
Meanwhile, Siemens has invested more than $100 billion in the United States over the past 20 years, including the completion of the Altair acquisition and recent expansion of its plants in California and Texas.
