Taxi transport franchise operator KST Mobility (KSTM) and Hyundai Motor Company announced that they will begin pilot operation of the community-based mobility service 'Shucle' in Eunpyeong New Town, Seoul.

Shuttle is a demand-responsive service that allows users to call a vehicle from anywhere within a service area of approximately 2km in radius, and a large passenger vehicle drives along an optimal route generated in real time, picking up and dropping off passengers at their desired locations.

When a new call occurs, the route is reconfigured in real time and dispatched through a ride-sharing algorithm to ensure that passengers with similar routes board together.

This is a ride pooling service that transports passengers with similar routes together, and is the first mobility service to be attempted in Korea.

According to the current Taxi Development Act, taxi-sharing services are prohibited, but in November, the project of Hyundai Motor Company and KSTM was designated as a special case for demonstration under the Ministry of Science and ICT's ICT regulatory sandbox, allowing Shucle's pilot service to operate.>
To achieve this, Hyundai Motor Company developed real-time optimal route setting (AI Dynamic Routing) technology. This core technology analyzes real-time travel demand based on artificial intelligence to find the most suitable route and accurately predict waiting and arrival times, enabling efficient vehicle dispatch.

Additionally, we've developed an integrated mobility platform package, including a mobile application and a full operating system, and applied it to this service. When users enter their destination via the Shuttle app, the optimal vehicle is dispatched based on real-time demand and traffic conditions. After making a request, the app allows users to check the vehicle's location and estimated arrival time in real time.

Hyundai Motor Company and KSTM plan to expand the service area by collaborating with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and local governments based on the data and know-how accumulated through this pilot service.

Kim Jeong-hee, Executive Vice President of Hyundai Motor Airlab, said, “Shucle is an innovative project that was launched to provide a comfortable and free transportation experience to people in areas with insufficient transportation infrastructure.” He added, “In the future, we will develop models that fit the characteristics of each region and expand the service area, while also working with various transportation methods and local transportation operators.”
