Morai announced on the 28th that it will hold the 'SHARK Autonomous Driving Competition' to compete in autonomous driving technology capabilities on the 'SHARK (Seongnam Hightech Autonomous Road framework)' virtual simulation platform with Seongnam Industrial Promotion Agency.

This competition, which will be held for the second time in 2024, was designed to discover research personnel in the field of autonomous driving and strengthen the competitiveness of autonomous driving software by fostering autonomous driving software experts.

The event is hosted by Seongnam City and organized by Seongnam Industrial Promotion Agency and Morai.

Morai will oversee the overall operation of the competition and provide training for students on how to use simulation tools and autonomous driving technology.

Shark is Morai's simulation platform that can test autonomous driving technology in a virtual space that is a digital twin of the Seongnam city center identical to reality, in response to various situations such as traffic, weather, and roads.

For this event, Morai implemented Seongnam City Hall as a digital twin.

Participants must use the shark to drive along a designated route and complete the Seongnam City Hall map while performing various missions such as following traffic signals, recognizing lanes, avoiding unexpected situations, and avoiding obstacles. <br />
This will allow autonomous vehicles to compete in their ability to respond to various situations that may occur when driving on actual roads in the areas of perception, judgment, and control.

Any domestic university or graduate school student can apply for the Shark Autonomous Driving Competition, and each team can consist of up to 5 people.

Applications for the competition are accepted until June 14th, and the finals will be held on August 30th at the Seongnam Global Convergence Center. Prize money will be 2 million won for the grand prize (1 team), 1 million won for the excellence award (1 team), and 500,000 won for the excellence awards (4 teams).

Jeong Ji-won, CEO of Morai, said, “Morai is working with the Seongnam Industrial Promotion Agency to grow the autonomous driving business and foster talent. To this end, we are supporting solutions that autonomous driving researchers and students can use to develop autonomous driving technology and evaluate performance in a virtual environment without actually driving a vehicle.” He added, “We expect that this competition will provide an opportunity for participating students to demonstrate their autonomous driving technology capabilities and gain experience.”
