Building a comprehensive infrastructure for cutting-edge R&D facilities and process innovation
Lam Research Korea plans to attract its headquarters, anticipating close collaboration
Lam Research (CEO Tim Archer) accelerates close collaboration and solution development with customers for next-generation semiconductor technology innovation through the Korea Technology Center.
On the 26th, Lam Research held an opening ceremony for the 'Lam Research Korea Technology Center,' a state-of-the-art research and development facility for the development of semiconductor equipment and process technology.
The newly opened Lam Research Korea Technology Center serves as a key hub for Lam Research’s R&D operations, along with its U.S. and European labs, and has established a comprehensive infrastructure to innovate equipment and processes used to produce cutting-edge semiconductor devices worldwide.
It also has a state-of-the-art cleanroom with the capacity to support future expansion, and the center's staff is comprised mostly of scientists and engineers with PhDs from leading graduate schools of science and engineering. In addition, the company plans to attract Lam Research Korea's headquarters within the 30,000 m² campus, which is expected to increase operational efficiency, create opportunities for quick decision-making, and develop talent.
The center is located in Yongin Jigok Industrial Complex, the center of Korea’s K-semiconductor belt, to increase customer accessibility. This is expected to enable closer collaboration across all chip manufacturing processes provided by Lam Research and accelerate solution development.
“The Lam Research Korea Technology Center is a powerful expansion of Lam’s global R&D network,” said Tim Archer, Lam Research president and CEO. “It will enhance our ability to develop next-generation semiconductor solutions more quickly by enabling closer technology partnerships with our customers.”
Additionally, “global demand for semiconductors and semiconductor manufacturing equipment remains strong. “The ongoing semiconductor chip shortage highlights the need for greater productivity across the semiconductor ecosystem,” he said. “Lam Research is committed to investing to meet this growing demand, and we are proud of that.”
Lee Sang-won, CEO and President of Lam Research Korea, said, “Lam Research has been actively collaborating with Korean partners for over 30 years,” and “By opening the Lam Research Korea Technology Center, we will provide a venue for these efforts to continue and continue to contribute to strengthening the K-semiconductor industry ecosystem.”
Since establishing Lam Research Korea in 1989, Lam Research has actively supported the growth and development of the Korean semiconductor industry for over 30 years.
Starting with localizing major component suppliers to domestic companies in 2003, the company established Lam Research Manufacturing Korea in 2011, built the Lam Research Technical Training Center in 2018, and opened the Lam Research Korea Technology Center in 2022, continuing its investment in the Korean semiconductor industry.
