“Supporting normalization of customer supply chains by resolving industry supply chain issues”
As the development of next-generation cutting-edge products such as artificial intelligence, automobiles, and infotainment is actively taking place, the market is demanding an extension of the life cycle of existing released products. Accordingly, AMD is meeting the needs of the market by extending the life cycle of the FPGA series widely supplied to the market.
AMD officially announced on the 2nd (local time) that it will extend support for the Spartan 6 FPGA product series until at least 2030.
The Spartan 6 family of products offers high logic-to-pin ratio, small form factor packaging, MicroBlaze soft processors, and a wide range of supported I/O protocols and high level connectivity. They are widely adopted in a variety of advanced bridging applications found in consumer, automotive infotainment, and industrial automation.
Markets in these sectors are known to demand extended product life, typically requiring product life cycles of 15 years or more. Accordingly, AMD has recently successfully extended the product life of the AMD7 series and has now extended the product life of the Spartan 6 FPGA.
AMD said it “takes our commitment to supporting long product life cycles very seriously,” and promised, “As we emerge from recent industry-wide supply chain challenges, we will normalize lead times to provide customers with confidence in their current supply chain and ultimate assurance of future availability.”
