FuriosaAI Develops Second-Generation AI Chip Renegade ‘Generative AI’ Commercial Technology Verification
As the era of artificial intelligence begins in earnest, companies are eager to secure and develop AI semiconductors. Furiosa AI, a fabless company with leading capabilities in domestic AI semiconductors, is joining hands with LG to develop AI semiconductors, thereby revitalizing the domestic system semiconductor ecosystem.
LG AI Research Institute announced on the 7th that it will join hands with Furiosa AI, a fabless company specializing in AI semiconductors, to build an AI semiconductor research ecosystem.
On the 7th, LG AI Research Institute signed a strategic partnership with Furiosa AI, an AI semiconductor design company, for joint research and commercialization related to next-generation AI semiconductors and generative AI. The two companies plan to establish a technology cooperation roadmap and expand the scope of collaboration to develop next-generation AI semiconductors capable of running ultra-large AI models.
Through this partnership, LG AI Research will verify the commercial ‘generative AI’ technology based on the ultra-large AI EXAONE using Renegade, the second-generation AI semiconductor currently under development by Furiosa AI.
It has been reported that Furiosa AI will develop an optimized AI semiconductor that can stably operate ultra-large AI models by reflecting the evaluation and feedback of LG AI Research Center throughout the entire design, development, and mass production process.
The Neural Processing Unit (NPU), also known as AI semiconductor, is evaluated to bring about innovation in the AI field as it can process data faster and more efficiently than the Central Processing Unit (CPU) and the Graphic Processing Unit (GPU), and also has higher inference performance.
At LG AI Research Center, Woohyung Lim, head of the Applied AI Research Group (Senior Managing Director), who is leading the development of AI models that can be applied to actual industrial sites to build a close cooperative system, is in charge of joint research and business model exploration with Furiosa AI.
“We will work with LG AI Research Center to elevate our AI semiconductor and generative AI technology competitiveness to world-class levels,” said Baek Jun-ho, CEO of Furiosa AI. “Both companies share a vision of creating AI that is helpful to human lives and will work to establish the foundation for an AI technology ecosystem with strong self-reliance.”
Meanwhile, Furiosa AI plans to mass-produce its second-generation AI chip, Renegade, in the first half of next year.
