Supports high-performance, high-reliability, low-power and robust non-contact applications
Simplified integration into products such as printers, power tools, game terminals, and access control systems STMicroelectronics (ST) has introduced an NFC reader that supports powerful contactless applications with high performance, reliability, and low power consumption.
ST describes its new NFC reader, the ST25R100, as a product that delivers advanced features and powerful communication capabilities at an affordable price.
This will further enhance the value of contactless interaction capabilities in mass-produced consumer and industrial products.
The ST25R100 comes in a compact 4 mm x 4 mm size, featuring low power consumption while maintaining high performance and reliability, supporting robust contactless applications.
These tiny chips could simplify integration into products such as printers, power tools, gaming terminals, home appliances, medical devices and access control systems.
“The contactless approach enables interaction between multiple products, which is useful for a variety of applications such as verifying genuine accessories, ordering consumables, and monitoring usage,” said Sylvain Fidelis, business line manager for ST’s multimarket division. “The ST25R100 is a software-based solution that“It offers outstanding cost-performance, combined with the benefits of rapid development leveraging the ecosystem, providing customers with an economical and easy-to-integrate solution,” he said.
The ST25R100 ensures strong and stable wireless connectivity even in space-constrained devices that can only use small antennas.
It also features a newly improved Low-Power Card Detection (LPCD) function, which significantly expands the detection range compared to existing cutting-edge devices, providing a more convenient user experience.
The ST25R100 incorporates an advanced analog front end (AFE) and a data framing system that supports standard NFC specifications such as NFC-A/B (ISO 14443A/B, up to 106 kbit/s) and NFC-V (ISO 15693, up to 53 kbit/s) for card reading.
The reader supports a wide power supply and peripheral I/O voltage range from 2.7 V to 5.5 V. Multiple operating modes with power management support extend the runtime of battery-powered applications by reducing device current to 1 µA. A reset mode that consumes only 0.1 µA is also supported.
