Industry-leading power and space efficiency, products to be supplied in the first quarter of next year
Solidigm, a subsidiary of SK Hynix, is expected to be a game changer that will solve the pain points of global customers building AI data centers by launching the world's largest capacity 122TB (terabyte) AI NAND eSSD.
Solidigm announced on the 13th that it has launched a new QLC-based eSSD product, 'D5-P5336', which has the largest capacity of any existing NAND solution, 122TB (terabytes).
Solidigm emphasized, “We were the first in the industry to commercialize QLC-based high-capacity SSDs and have led the AI NAND solution market by supplying cumulative products exceeding 100EB (exabytes) since 2018.” It added, “With the D5-P5336, the capacity has doubled compared to the previous 61.44TB product, and we have once again succeeded in breaking through technological limitations.”
He added, “We expect that the 122TB eSSD, which has the world’s largest capacity as well as the highest levels of power and space efficiency, will be of great help to global customers building AI infrastructure such as data centers.”
The D5-P5336 is the world's first 5-year unlimited random write endurance device, making it optimized for data-intensive AI tasks. Solidigm's technical team confirmed that when customers build a NAS with this product, the storage device installation space can be reduced by 1/4 compared to the existing HDD and SSD mixed method, and power consumption can be reduced by up to 84%.
In addition, when customers build edge servers with space constraints, applying this product instead of the TLC-based 30TB SSD that has been commonly used so far will allow four times more data to be stored in the same area, and power density per TB will be improved by 3.4 times.
Solidigm is currently working with global customers on certification of the D5-P5336 and plans to begin supplying the product in the first quarter of next year as soon as this work is completed. Through this, the company aims to continue its leadership in the NAND solution market for AI data centers with a wide portfolio of enterprise SSDs ranging from 7TB to 122TB.
“As the AI era begins in earnest, enterprises are thinking deeply about how to solve the power and space efficiency issues of their data centers,” said Travis Vigil, senior vice president of product management at Dell Technologies. “Solidigm’s eSSD will maximize energy efficiency and space utilization of data centers.” He added, “While Dell is increasing data center density through our own solutions, we also expect to continue to see innovation in the storage field, such as this new product from Solidigm.”
“As the scope of AI adoption expands, data center designers are working across multiple fronts to improve energy and space efficiency,” said Greg Matson, senior vice president of strategy and marketing at Solidium. “Our new product will be a game changer that proactively addresses these pain points for our customers.”
