Securing QLC-based 61TB product... Strengthening synergy with Solidime
PCIe 5th generation application, data transfer speed up to 32GT/s
SK Hynix announced on the 18th that it has completed the development of 'PS1012 U.2', a high-capacity SSD (Solid State Drive) product for AI data centers.
SK Hynix explained, “With the full-scale arrival of the AI era, the demand for high-performance enterprise SSDs (eSSDs, enterprise SSDs) is rapidly increasing, and QLC technology that can implement these in high capacities is becoming the industry standard.” It added, “In line with this trend, we have developed a 61TB (terabyte) product using this technology and are launching it to the market.”
Previously, SK Hynix had been leading the SSD market for AI data centers, centered around its subsidiary Solidigm, which commercialized QLC-based eSSD for the first time in the world. With the development of PS1012, the two companies are expected to build a balanced SSD portfolio, thereby maximizing synergy between them.
The PS1012 adopts the latest PCIe 5th generation (Gen5) and has twice the bandwidth compared to 4th generation-based products. Accordingly, the data transfer speed reaches 32 GT/s, and the sequential read performance is 13 GB/s, which is twice that of previous standard products.
It is also reported that the new product was developed to support OCP 2.0 version, thereby increasing compatibility with various data center server devices of global AI customers.
SK Hynix plans to supply samples of this new product to global server manufacturers within the year for product evaluation, and based on the results, expand the product line to 122TB in the third quarter of next year. In addition, in order to overcome the capacity limitations of eSSD, the company is also developing a 244TB product based on the world’s highest 321-layer 4D NAND developed last November, and plans to lead the ultra-high-capacity data center SSD market.
SK hynix Chief Development Officer (CDO) President Ahn Hyun said, “Our company and Solidigme are strengthening our QLC-based high-capacity SSD lineup and solidifying our technological leadership in the AI NAND solution sector.” He added, “In the future, based on our high competitiveness in the eSSD sector, we will lay the foundation for growth to leap forward as a full-stack AI memory provider by satisfying the diverse needs of AI data center customers.”
