“AMD Epic Processor Cloud Competitiveness Proven”
AMD announced on the 1st that the 5th generation AMD EPYC processor will be introduced to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) E6 Compute Standard Platform.
The OCI E6 platform, equipped with the 5th generation AMD EPYC processor, a CPU for servers, is said to provide up to 2x better cost-performance compared to the previous generation E5 instances based on OCI's own testing.
The new OCI E6 platform supports general-purpose and compute-intensive workloads, offering over 1,000 new compute instance choices across leading cloud services based on AMD EPYC processors.
“The rapid adoption of AMD EPYC processors in cloud environments demonstrates the competitive advantage AMD solutions offer to our partners in delivering cloud services,” said Dan McNamara, senior vice president and general manager, Server Business Unit, AMD. “Combining OCI’s infrastructure with the performance of the 5th Gen AMD EPYC processors allows customers to accelerate critical workloads while optimizing their cloud infrastructure.”
“OCI is committed to providing customers with the highest performing and most cost-effective cloud solutions,” said Donald Lu, senior vice president, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Compute. “With the new OCI E6 Compute Standard Platform powered by AMD EPYC processors, OCI is addressing the compute performance, scalability, and efficiency that today’s complex workloads demand.”
Meanwhile, OCI E6 Standard Bare metal instances and virtual machines (VMs) are currently available in several regions: US East (Ashburn), US West (Phoenix), US Midwest (Chicago), Germany Central (Frankfurt), and England South (London), with plans to gradually expand regional availability in the coming months.
