Microchip Technology Inc. today announced the availability of its Adaptec® SmartHBA 2200 and Adaptec HBA 1200 host buses with its Smart Storage PCIe® Gen 4 NVMe Tri-Mode SmartRAID 3200 RAID adapters.

These adapters support next-generation NVMe and 24G SAS connectivity, manageability, and high performance, while providing the security required for next-generation data center infrastructure.

“These adapters set a new industry standard for security and performance in storage adapters with the latest NVMe and 24G SAS media,” said Andrew Dieckmann, vice president of product marketing for Microchip’s Data Center Solutions business unit. “They also provide flexibility with support for 12G SAS, 6G SATA SSDs and HDDs.”

Microchip’s Smart Storage Adapters offer eight to 32 ports supporting NVMe 4.0 and/or 24G SAS drives, x8 and x16 PCIe Gen 4 CPU interface options, and up to four times the performance of the previous generation. Advanced features such as Dynamic Channel Multiplexing (DCM) SAS link aggregation technology provide greater than 99 percent expander connection link efficiency, improving the performance of high-density storage solutions.

It also supports the Smart Storage Stack and complex management tools. It supports the SFF-TA-1005 industry standard for Universal Backplane Management (UBM), Intel Virtual Pin Port (VPP) for intelligent backplane management, and the standards-based PLDM (Platform Level Data Model)/RDE (Redfish® Device Enablement) from the Distributed Management Task Force that simplifies out-of-band management implementation in MCTP/BMC.

Storage infrastructure requires both adapter-level and supply-level security features. The latest generation of adapters includes secure storage options that support both Self-Encrypting Drives (SEDs) and maxCrypto™ Controller-Based Encryption (CBE). This extends the boundaries of encryption beyond SED devices to secure data stored in cache memory. Additionally, Microchip’s Trusted Platform technology provides essential supply chain security and is aligned with the Open Compute Security Project initiative.

Microchip offers common smart storage deployment tools including the Adaptec MaxView Storage Manager, ARCCONF management tools for local management, and DMCTP and DMTF standards-based PLDM/RDE that support remote management using BMC and ChipLink diagnostic tools. Firmware, software, documentation and Adaptec-specific technical documentation are also available.

The new adapters provide up to 32 SAS/SATA/NVMe internal connectivity ports and x8 or x16 PCIe Gen4 host interfaces. The portfolio also includes 24G SAS-4 and NVMe capable cables that provide end-to-end configuration coverage.
