LTE and 5G automatically roam to third-party LTE carriers in the event of a communication disaster.
The three major mobile carriers will build dedicated roaming infrastructure in January. Even if a specific telecommunications company's communication service is cut off due to a fire or other reason, you can now make calls and send text messages through another telecommunications company, just like when roaming abroad.
On the 25th, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the three major mobile carriers held a demonstration event for mobile roaming during a disaster at SK Telecom's Bundang office.

Disaster mobile roaming is a service that allows users to use mobile communication services without interruption by using the communication networks of other communication companies when a communication disaster occurs with a specific communication company.
The Ministry of Science and ICT prepared and announced a 'Mobile Communication Roaming Plan in Case of Disaster' in April of last year. The three mobile carriers built a dedicated roaming infrastructure late last year and conducted tests on a pilot network in January of this year.
With this disaster roaming implementation, even if a metropolitan-scale communication disaster (approximately 2 million lines) occurs for a specific telecommunications carrier, LTE and 5G users will be able to receive communication services such as voice and text messages through the LTE networks of other carriers that have not experienced the disaster without any special measures.

However, for 3G, you must activate a USIM card at a carrier's branch office and use call forwarding services to receive calls to your existing number. After the disaster, you can apply for the SIM card and charges incurred during the disaster to the carrier you contacted. You can receive compensation after the disaster.
The disaster roaming demonstration on this day was conducted by assuming a disaster at a KT and LG U+ base station and connecting KT and LG U+ terminals to SK Telecom base stations to demonstrate voice calls, wireless card payments, and messenger use, proving that users can use mobile communication services without having to perform any special terminal operations.
