Equipped with strong security features, only authorized users can access
The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has installed a stealth Wi-Fi network at the Naval Academy that only allows access to authorized users with strong security features.
ETRI announced that it has developed an 'intelligent stealth technology to minimize exposure of information and communication resources for public work and missions' with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency.
Accordingly, as part of this project, the company announced that it will hold the 'WiFi-based Intelligent Stealth Network Living Lab Opening Ceremony' at the Naval Academy on the 27th in cooperation with the Naval Academy.
The Intelligent Stealth Network (ISN) technology applied this time is an innovative technology that is designed to allow only authorized users to access a secure wireless LAN (WiFi) system.
Stealth features make the network invisible to unauthenticated users, ensuring that only people, devices, and nodes identified as legitimate users can access the network.
This technology provides powerful security features, making it particularly suitable for high-security environments such as the military.
ETRI has been continuously discussing with each military branch for the military application of ISN technology, listening to the military's requirements through review meetings and demonstrations, and developing based on these. I have been adjusting the direction.
Through this project, the Naval Academy plans to create an environment where cadets can use Wi-Fi more safely, while continuing to research ways to effectively utilize civilian IT technology in the military.
ETRI plans to demonstrate two highly advanced technologies developed in this project.
First, the Intelligent Stealth Wireless LAN Management technology (ISN Manager) plays a role in enhancing security and strengthening reliability by integrated management of various access points (WiFi AP).
This technology efficiently manages different types of access points by applying a zero-trust-based integrated control system, and significantly enhances security by providing traffic monitoring, threat detection, and blocking functions in the wireless LAN section.
We will also demonstrate wireless network traffic monitoring and anomaly detection technology. This technology has the ability to analyze network traffic in real time and detect and block potential threats.
ETRI Defense Security Convergence Research Center Director Park Hye-sook said, “These technologies support the use of secure wireless LAN even in military environments where WiFi use has been restricted due to security issues,” adding, “We plan to continue conducting various verification tests and supplementary development so that the military can utilize them in the future.”
