Easy to build in various service environments such as PC, smartphone, web, and app
SK Telecom (CEO Yoo Young-sang) is providing a Passkey authentication system that does not require a password as SaaS, and it is expected that many companies will adopt it as it can be easily implemented in various service environments such as PCs, smartphones, web, and apps.
SKT announced on the 26th that it will provide a passkey authentication system that allows easy login and authentication without a password to companies wishing to introduce it on a SaaS (Software as a Service) basis.
Passkey is a global standard (W3C, Fido Alliance) technology that enables authentication and login through a public key encryption algorithm instead of a password. Individual users can easily log in through an authentication method (biometric authentication, PIN number, etc.) supported by the device they are using without having to set or memorize a password.
Major global companies such as Google, Apple, and Microsoft are adopting passkey authentication as the basic authentication method for their OS, and various domestic and foreign companies are also introducing passkeys to their services, rapidly advancing the passwordless era where passwords are not needed.
SKT developed its own passkey authentication system in 2023 and applied it to its identity verification service app, PASS. Based on the accumulated technology and know-how, it is enabling other companies to easily and quickly apply passkeys. We have prepared our own passkey authentication system in SaaS format.
In particular, SKT is directly participating in the establishment of international passkey standards as a member of the 'FIDO Alliance', a global FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) authentication standardization association, so companies that adopt SKT's passkey SaaS can always use a passkey authentication system that reflects the latest standards.
Companies wishing to introduce SKT Passkey can develop and test Passkeys using the guides and APIs published on the SKT Passkey SaaS portal (https://passkey.sktelecom.com/), and general users can also directly experience Passkey creation and login demos.
SKT Passkey SaaS can easily build a passkey environment without restrictions in various service environments such as PC, smartphone, web, and app. If a user registers a passkey only once for the first time in a service that uses passkey authentication, the user can use the service continuously regardless of the type or device change.
Since the password itself does not exist, password theft and phishing attacks through fake sites, which have recently become social issues, are fundamentally impossible, so personal information and property can be safely protected.
Starting in September, BenePia, Korea's leading employee welfare mall used by approximately 3,700 companies and organizations, is expected to apply SKT Passkey SaaS, allowing customers using BenePia to have a more convenient login and authentication experience.
Oh Se-hyun, SKT Web3 CO-President (Vice President), said, “Passkey will provide users with a safe and convenient login and authentication experience, and will provide companies with a foundation for growth by improving customer churn rates and reducing security resources.” He added, “In the future, we will support many companies to easily and quickly introduce Passkey through SKT Passkey SaaS.”
