AI·SW Technology Exchange Workshop Held at Daejeon's 'Korea Tech Square'
Introduction of super-large AI and metaverse technologies, announcement of interim results of joint research project
Industry and academia have come together to develop super-large AI technologies. In a society where artificial intelligence and software technologies are rapidly changing, we have a place to explore business applications using AI technologies.
KT announced on the 21st that it held an AI joint research workshop at 'Korea Tech Square', an artificial intelligence (AI) joint research center in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon with KAIST.
At this workshop, KT and KAIST shared interim results of their joint AI technology research projects to optimize research directions and support exchanges between officials from both institutions. Approximately 50 people attended, including KT Convergence Technology Institute AI2XL Research Center Director Bae Soon-min, KAIST Computer Science Department Head Professor Ryu Seok-young, KT researchers, KAIST professors, and master’s and doctoral students.
The main program consisted of an introduction to KT's ultra-large-scale AI and metaverse technologies, a presentation of research results from KAIST's joint research project, discussions on each project, and communication time to strengthen cooperation among participants.
On this day, KT announced the main features of the super-large AI 'Mi:dm', use cases of AI API services based on it, and technology and business strategies for the metaverse platform 'Genieverse'. KAIST has presented the goals, achievements, and future plans for 10 joint research projects on AI core technologies and AI application technologies.
In particular, the joint research project covered technologies related to ultra-large-scale AI expert consultation, AICC (AI Contact Center) consultation completion rate, TTS (Text-to-Speech) quality, metaverse digital assets, etc., and achieved meaningful results in that they can be utilized in various KT businesses.
Through this, KT and KAIST exchanged their respective AI and metaverse-related technologies and knowledge, and reviewed their research goals and directions for solving problems arising across industries and society by utilizing AI technology. In addition, the two organizations plan to cooperate by holding regular meetings for each task and conducting annual evaluations of research outputs.
KAIST Dean of Engineering Professor Dong-Man Lee said, “In a society that is rapidly changing with AI and SW (software) technology, KAIST and KT are conducting joint research that combines digital humanities with the goal of developing human-centered AI technology. I expect that cooperation between the two institutions will allow us to develop science and technology that will lead the future.”
KT Convergence Technology Institute Director Kim Lee-han said, “Through this workshop held in celebration of the second anniversary of the establishment of ‘Korea Tech Square,’ I hope that KT and KAIST, which possess the best AI technology in Korea, will further strengthen their cooperation in technology development in the AI and SW fields.”
