Naver Cloud has revealed its ambition to stand tall as a provider of cutting-edge technologies such as AI and robots based on its '1784' building, which is an ICT technology testbed.
Naver Cloud introduced a future space implemented based on Naver Cloud's AI and cloud technology at 'ICT Convergence Korea' held at the Yangjae The K Hotel on the 15th.
In his keynote speech that day, CTO Kwak Young-jae said, “Hyperclova is an unrivaled, ultra-large AI owned by Naver Cloud that was released before Google after the release of ‘ChatGPT-3,’ and we are considering how to respond to ChatGTP-4 that was announced this morning (March 15th).” He added, “Hyperclova X, which is scheduled to be released in July, is a platform that aims to create models tailored to the situation based on customers, and it can be used in specialized fields such as law and medicine.”
He also said, “I can say with certainty that Naver is the only company in the world that can implement technologies such as AI and robots as services and provide them seamlessly to users,” and asserted, “With Naver’s capabilities, we will help customers achieve successful digital transformation and become a global cloud company representing Korea.”
■ '1784' connecting people and technology '1784', which opened in June of last year, is the name of Naver's new headquarters, and is derived from the administrative district address. It also carries the meaning of supporting innovation by linking it to 1784, the year the first industrial revolution began.
This building, which houses over 200 companies, functions as a service platform for researching and developing cutting-edge ICT technologies such as AI, big data, digital twins, robotics, 5G, and cloud.
“The core of 1784 is connecting people and technology,” said CTO Kwak. To achieve this, the company focused on approaching people naturally as a service rather than emphasizing specific technological elements. In the end, he said, “Creating user-oriented services based on ICT technology is what Naver does best, and 1784 is the space that has implemented this capability.”
■ Naver Cloud’s ‘Ark’, the Brain of Robots

Currently, '1784' is utilizing technologies such as the autonomous robot 'Rookie', 'Clova Face Sign' that allows facility use through facial recognition, and 'Clova Note' that automatically creates and shares meeting minutes.
In particular, the 'Naver Works' app is at the center of the service platform that goes beyond the value of a simple office space. Through Naver Works, you can control temperature, lighting, and ventilation, use robot food delivery services, notify your car's parking location, set meeting schedules, and call the elevator.
The robots of 1784 move under instructions from the brain in the cloud. A computing device called 'ARC (AI-Robot-Cloud)', which acts as the human brain, is installed in the cloud and performs all calculations and instructions in the cloud. In the cloud, not only digital twin data but also various infrastructures and services are connected.
Robots provide services by communicating with Arc in real time based on a 5G specialized network. High-performance computing is located in the cloud, so robots can provide services even with small batteries. 1784 is a robot-friendly building, featuring no steps within the building.
CTO Kwak said, “1784’s technologies will also be applied to the second data center, ‘Gak Sejong,’ which is scheduled to open this summer.” ‘Gak Sejong’ is the largest data center in Asia, accommodating 600,000 servers at a size 41 times that of a soccer field, and like 1784, it will provide operational automation based on autonomous robot driving technology on the Naver Cloud platform.
