Korea Intelligence Information Society Agency Integrated Announcement, April 15th Announcement
Promotion of platform use support projects and service development support projects
The government will expand the budget for large-scale AI utilization support projects by more than five times that of the previous year and begin to actively discover best practices.
The Presidential Committee on Digital Platform Government (Chairman Ko Jin) and the Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Lee Jong-ho) announced that they will be accepting applications for the Ultra-Large AI Utilization Support Project (dedicated organization: Korea Institute for Advancement of Intelligence Information Society) starting on April 15 to help government ministries, agencies, local governments, and private companies freely utilize ultra-large AI platforms.
This project has expanded more than five-fold from KRW 2 billion in 2023 to KRW 11 billion in 2024 compared to last year, driven by interest in and need for the introduction of ultra-large-scale AI.
It is being promoted by dividing it into a 'platform use support project' that matches suppliers with large AI platforms and institutions and companies with demand for use, and supports consulting, PoC, usage fees, etc., and a 'service development support project' that supports the development of innovative services for improving administrative efficiency and resolving social issues.
In particular, this year, we will focus on expanding the amount of support per project and creating best practices for the use of ultra-large-scale AI in the public sector.
The platform use support sector will be promoted with a total scale of 2.7 billion won, and will provide consulting, PoC, optimization/advancement, platform use environment, etc. necessary for utilizing ultra-large AI platforms to various public and private organizations and companies.
In particular, unlike last year when four suppliers including Naver, KT, Maem AI, and Vibe Company were selected, this year there is no limit to the number of suppliers selected, and the conditions for participation are set. We plan to encourage various small and medium-sized enterprises with competitiveness to participate as suppliers.
The service development support sector will be promoted with a total scale of 7.7 billion won, and will be divided into three areas: public general, public specialized, and current issue resolution, to enable the creation of various forms of ultra-large AI services.
This is a method in which demand agencies and companies present ideas and introduction/operation plans, and support development companies that can implement them.
Last year, many organizations confirmed the possibility of introducing ultra-large-scale AI through consulting and PoC, and it is expected that various ideas will lead to service commercialization this year.
The Ministry of Science and ICT's Eom Yeol, director of the AI-based policy division, said, "Now is the era of 'AI daily life,' where AI is changing our daily lives, workplaces, and public administration." He added, "Through this project, we hope that more ministries, organizations, and companies will experience ultra-large-scale AI and create various best practices."
Kim Min-pyo, director of the policy planning department of the Diplomacy Committee, said, “The Diplomacy Committee has been promoting the application and verification of the use of ultra-large AI in the public sector in various sectors in consultation with the Ministry of Science and ICT, and this year, we will focus on expanding and creating successful cases of public services,” adding, “Through this, we can expect to improve administrative efficiency and resolve social issues based on ultra-large AI.”
For organizations and companies that would like a more detailed explanation of the business, a business briefing session will be held on April 18th at 2:00 PM in the Dongguk University Main Building (3rd floor, Middle Auditorium).
