The industry's largest line of automotive-grade remote temperature sensors from a single supplier
Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, today announced the industry’s largest family of automotive-grade remote temperature sensors from a single supplier.
Microchip Technology Inc. today announced the availability of the MCP998x family of 10 automotive-qualified remote temperature sensors.
The MCP998x family is the industry's largest family of automotive-grade multi-channel temperature sensors, offering a wide operating temperature range and high accuracy in 1°C increments.
The family also includes five sensors with shutdown temperature setpoints designed to prevent them from being overwritten or maliciously disabled by other software.
The MCP998x family supports systems managing more than one thermal device, with up to five monitoring channels and a variety of alert and shutdown options for security.
This remote sensor has integrated resistance error correction and beta compensation, eliminating the need for additional setup to improve accuracy.
It also reduces board complexity and size, simplifying design by allowing temperature monitoring at multiple locations with a single integrated temperature sensor, thus reducing the bill of materials (BOM). Parts List Specification) to reduce costs.
“Microchip’s new family of remote temperature sensors provides customers with choice in a category that has traditionally offered limited options,” said Fanie Duvenhage, vice president of Microchip’s mixed-signal and linear analog business unit. “The MCP998x family includes 10 devices, each delivering better accuracy in ultra-high-temperature applications, five of which have shutdown safety features, giving customers a wide selection of automotive multi-channel temperature sensors.”
The MCP998x family is designed to deliver enhanced accuracy in critical areas, delivering 2.5°C accuracy up to 125°C, enabling use in high-temperature applications beyond the traditional temperature ranges that many competitors struggle with.
This high-temperature endurance makes the MCP998x family ideal for automotive applications where operating temperature of electronic devices is a critical factor.
The MCP998x sensors are designed to support the operation of in-vehicle electronic devices such as seat control units, lighting systems, mirror control units, and power windows, along with a wide range of vehicle functions such as HID lamps, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), automotive servers, video processing units, infotainment systems, engine control units, and telematics systems.
