Optimization for sustainability, e-mobility, data centers, etc.
Microchip Technology Inc. (Nasdaq: MCHP), a leading provider of microcontroller, mixed-signal, analog and Flash-IP solutions, today introduced new power devices optimized for a wide range of applications including e-mobility and data centers, responding to the growing demand for power components that require higher efficiency, smaller size and better performance.
Microchip Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: MCHP) today introduced a new family of IGBT 7 devices available in a variety of package types, topologies, current and voltage ranges to provide system developers with a broad range of power solutions.
This new IGBT 7 family features improved power capability, lower power losses and smaller device sizes to meet the needs of high-growth markets such as sustainability, e-mobility and data centers.
These high-performance IGBT 7 devices are key components for power applications such as solar inverters, hydrogen ecosystems, commercial and agricultural vehicles, and aircraft electrification systems (MEAs), allowing developers to select the right power solution to meet their needs.
Microchip's IGBT 7 family is available in standard D3 and D4 62mm packages, as well as SP6C, SP1F and SP6LI packages, and is available in three-level neutral point clamp (NPC), three-phase bridge, boost chopper, buck chopper, dual common-source, It can be configured in various topologies such as full bridge, phase leg, single switch, and T-type.
It is also supported with a voltage range from 1200V to 1700V and a current range from 50A to 900A.
“Our versatile IGBT 7 portfolio combines ease of use and cost-effectiveness with high power density and reliability to give customers maximum flexibility,” said Leon Gross, vice president of Microchip’s Discrete Products business unit. “Designed to address general industrial, aerospace and defense applications, these power solutions can be integrated with Microchip’s broad portfolio of FPGAs, microcontrollers (MCUs), microprocessors (MPUs), dsPIC® digital signal controllers and analog devices, enabling a single supplier to provide a complete system solution.”
The IGBT 7 family enables lower on-state IGBT voltage (Vce), improved anti-parallel diode (lower Vf), and higher current capability to minimize power losses and improve power density and system efficiency.
Additionally, the device's combination of low inductance package and high overload capability (Tvj -175°C) makes it ideal for building rugged, reliable aerospace and defense applications such as propulsion systems, motion machinery, and power distribution at low system cost.
Additionally, the IGBT 7 devices provide freewheeling to enable efficient, smooth and optimized switching for motor control applications where improved dv/dt controllability is critical. Additionally, these high-performance devices aim to increase system reliability, reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) interference, and minimize voltage spikes.
Microchip offers a broad portfolio of power management solutions, including analog devices, silicon (Si), silicon carbide (SiC) power technology, dsPIC® digital signal controllers (DCS), and standard, modified and custom power modules.
