18 consecutive years of 1st place in sight
Samsung Electronics is on the verge of taking first place in the global TV market for the 18th consecutive year.
According to the third quarter global TV market performance announced by market research firm Omdia on the 20th, Samsung Electronics ranked first in the global TV market with a 29.9% share based on sales in the third quarter of this year. This figure is up 2.4 percentage points from 27.5% in the same period last year.
It also maintained first place in terms of quantity share, recording 18.3%. With this, Samsung TV has come one step closer to being number one in the industry for 18 consecutive years since 2006.
Despite a year-on-year decline in global TV market demand, Samsung TV maintained its industry-leading position by expanding its lineup of premium products such as Neo QLED, lifestyle, ultra-large, and OLED.
In the premium product market priced over $2,500, Samsung showed off its unrivaled competitiveness in the premium market by recording a sales share of 62.0%, up 16.2 percentage points from 45.8% in the same period last year, led by Neo QLED and lifestyle/OLED products.
In addition, it has firmly maintained its top position in the ultra-large market of 75 inches or larger with a 34.8% share, and in particular, by expanding its 98-inch lineup, it has taken a 40.4% share in products over 80 inches, once again confirming the formula of 'Premium TV = Samsung.'
Samsung's QLED products, led by Neo QLED, led the premium TV market by selling 5.84 million units in the third quarter, and have sold more than 40 million units as of the third quarter of this year since QLED was first introduced to the market in 2017.
In the global market, cumulative sales of QLED TVs this year have surpassed 10 million units (10.94 million units), proving once again that it is truly the flagship product in the premium TV market.
In the case of OLED TVs, a total of 3.71 million units were sold in the third quarter of this year, and Samsung sold about 620,000 units, gradually increasing its share in the OLED market.
