[Editor's Note] At the 2025 Smart Factory & Automation Industry Exhibition, STMicroelectronics presented a smart home automation solution utilizing KNX (an open standard for commercial and residential building automation) technology. With the KNX-based product line that maximizes energy efficiency, it presents new possibilities to the domestic smart home market, and expectations are high as to how it can be applied to the domestic market in the future.
We met with STMicroelectronics representative, Yang-Gu Kang, and looked at ST's KNX-based products and solutions applied to smart home automation.

When it comes to market requirements, customers want a complete solution that combines hardware and software.
There is also an atmosphere in smart homes where existing communications are integrated with KNX to reduce energy.
■ About the products introduced in this exhibition Currently, there are several products that incorporate KNX.
It includes KNX-RF TX, button panel, touch screen, ToF sensor, PIR sensor, TMOS sensor, power supply, and RGB driver.

The demo features several products that incorporate KNX. It can be used to detect people or measure distances using ToF sensors or PIR sensors.
Each sensor value or on/off operation can be processed through the touch screen.
■ What are the main advantages and differences of ST products? Using KNX also has energy-saving effects.
In the case of ST, it has the advantage of not only providing ICs but also allowing customers to quickly apply them through total solutions.
ST's differentiation is based on hardware and software solutions that are low-priced and quickly available to customers.
■ What were the reactions on site at this exhibition? It is difficult to find KNX solutions in Korea. They are already being applied in Europe and China, and it seems that people are only now starting to learn about KNX solutions.
