Nickel 95% polycrystalline/single crystal mixed
Contributes to improved battery life and stability
Global secondary battery materials company L&F won an award in the materials and components category for its 'High-Nickel Composite Cathode Active Material' at the InterBattery Awards 2025 held at COEX on the 24th.
The InterBattery Awards, hosted by the Korea Battery Industry Association and COEX, is an event that selects excellent products and technologies in the battery industry among InterBattery participating companies and showcases their excellence to all industry professionals.
△Batteries △Materials/Components △Use of Used Batteries △Equipment/Automation △Startups The winners will be selected by evaluating technological excellence, innovation, marketability, and contribution to industrial development in five entry categories.
This year's award-winning 'High Nickel Composite Cathode Material' is a product that mixes polycrystalline and single-crystal cathode materials with a nickel content of 95% or more. The judging panel said that they highly praised L&F's unique composite technology for successfully commercializing this product for the first time in the world.
In particular, it has been noted that battery life and stability issues that may arise from polycrystalline cathode materials have been resolved through mixing with single-crystal cathode materials. It was evaluated that this overcomes the technological limitations of existing high-nickel cathode materials, such as reducing gas generation, improving stability, and significantly improving battery life.
The award-winning work received high scores for its innovative technology and contribution to industrial development. By enabling the implementation of a battery that surpasses the limits of energy density by one level, mass production of high-performance batteries became possible. This technological innovation is expected to further strengthen the global competitiveness of K-Battery, while also contributing to the acceleration of electric vehicle distribution worldwide and the realization of carbon neutrality through resource efficiency.
“I am very pleased that our technological prowess has been recognized through this award,” said Jeon Sang-hoon, head of L&F’s Materials Development Research Institute. “The high-nickel composite cathode material is an innovative achievement that goes one step further than the limits of energy density. Based on L&F’s world-leading technological prowess, we will overcome the chasm head-on.”
Meanwhile, L&F will showcase various next-generation battery technologies, including this award-winning work, at InterBattery 2025, which will be held at COEX from March 5 to 7. In addition to this award-winning work, the following technologies will be revealed: △LFP cathode material △LLBS precursor △waste battery recycling △next-generation secondary battery material technology. The award-winning works will also be exhibited separately in the InterBattery Awards special hall.
L&F is currently leading the next-generation battery material market based on its technology in the high-nickel cathode material field. In particular, it is accelerating the LFP business with domestic and international customers with the goal of mass production in 2026, and announced plans to further diversify its product portfolio through the production of cathode materials for non-Chinese LFP batteries that meet international laws such as IRA.
