Strengthening Smack's expertise in machine tools and manufacturing solutions by leveraging Hexagon technology and solutions

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, a global leader in digital reality solutions combining sensors, software, and autonomous technologies, and SMEC, a specialist in machine tool and robotics automation solutions, have joined hands to develop smart manufacturing technologies for the aerospace, defense, and semiconductor industries.

Hexagon announced on the 1st that it signed a business agreement (MOU) with Smac to expand the value of smart manufacturing in the era of Industry 4.0.

The MOU signing ceremony was held at the SMAC booth at the 'SIMTOS 2024 (hereinafter referred to as SIMTOS)', Korea's largest production manufacturing technology exhibition currently underway at KINTEX in Ilsan, and was signed by Brian Seong, President of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence Korea, and Young-Seop Choi, CEO of SMAC. The two companies expect to closely cooperate in mutual technological exchanges to create synergy.

Based on this MOU, Hexagon plans to provide Smack’s machine tool expertise with Hexagon’s CAD/CAM software and machine tool measurement system (MTM) that combine digital twin technology to support the development and mass production of high-end equipment, as well as the speed and quality improvement of Y-axis turning centers capable of complex processing in a single setting.

Furthermore, Smack is involved in R&D, prototype production, and mass production. We will provide close support through Hexagon’s various products and solutions to complete the digital ecosystem across the entire process, including post-sale quality inspection.

“SMAC is actively introducing full-process automation to meet the needs of various industries, including aviation, defense, and semiconductors, in the development of machine tools, industrial robots, and information and communication equipment,” said Choi Young-seop, CEO of SMAC. “We believe that Hexagon’s digital reality solutions will help accelerate SMAC’s development of customized machines and expand its supply.”

“We will work together to apply Hexagon’s digital twin technology to SMAC’s various equipment development processes,” said Sung Brian Hexagon, President of Manufacturing Intelligence Korea. “Through continued collaboration, we will actively work to ensure that Hexagon’s technology and solutions can be utilized to automate and accelerate the manufacturing processes of domestic companies located in the Gyeongnam region, including SMAC.”

Meanwhile, Hexagon will be holding a seminar on the topic of ‘Manufacturing Digital Twin Using 5-axis Machining Center and Esprit Cam’ at the Smack booth (04A540) during the Simtos event on the 3rd.
