Data Centers in the AI Era Emphasize Sustainability and Efficiency
“In the AI era, the data center industry is going beyond simply supporting digital infrastructure, and the importance of efficient power management and advanced cooling solutions is increasingly highlighted, and sustainability and maximizing energy efficiency are required.”
Schneider Electric (Korea Branch CEO Jiwoong Kwon), a global company leading the digital transformation in energy management and automation, announced on the 15th that it is focusing on strengthening sustainability and efficiency in the rapidly changing data center industry along with the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Schneider Electric explained that the importance of power management and cooling solutions in data centers is increasing due to the advancement of AI technology.
As the demand for green data center operations rapidly increases, efficient power management and advanced cooling technologies are essential to increase energy savings and cost efficiency, playing a pivotal role in making data center operations more sustainable and productive.
In particular, by 2025, battery energy storage systems (BESS) are expected to be integrated into data centers to optimize energy charging during periods of abundant renewable energy and effectively respond to high-demand situations or power supply fluctuations.
Additionally, cooperation between data centers and utilities is expected to strengthen. By leveraging AI technology, data centers can share power consumption patterns and forecast data with utilities and select optimal power profiles to address power shortages and stabilize renewable energy sources.
Schneider Electric has various power management and cooling solutions such as UPS (uninterruptible power supply), rack, and cooling to keep pace with AI data centers.
Schneider Electric emphasized that these solutions will increase the productivity of data centers while enhancing sustainability and enabling eco-friendly operations. They also explained that as AI technology is increasingly utilized in data center design, maintenance methods, and power management automation with utilities, it will significantly improve the efficiency and sustainability of backup power and cooling systems.
“In the era of AI, the data center industry is increasingly reliant on efficient power management and advanced cooling solutions,” said Steven Carlini, SVP of Data Center and AI for Schneider Electric’s Global Secure Power business. “By prioritizing sustainability, strengthening collaboration with utilities, and actively leveraging innovative technologies, data centers will continue to play a critical role in supporting the digital and AI-driven world.”
