Leveraging AI-based autoencoders to reduce fronthaul traffic and bandwidth requirements
The powerful software from MathWorks, a leader in technical computing software, and the FPGA technology of Intel subsidiary Altera are being combined to enhance the development of high-performance AI applications and 5G and 6G wireless systems.
MathWorks recently announced that it is collaborating with Altera to accelerate the development of 5G and 6G wireless communication systems using AI technologies.
This collaboration will enable wireless engineers to use AI-based autoencoders to compress channel state information (CSI) data, significantly reducing fronthaul traffic and bandwidth requirements.
This is expected to contribute to increasing network efficiency and reducing operating costs.
A New Era of AI-Enabled Wireless Systems Integration between Altera FPGAs (programmable gate arrays) and MathWorks software will unleash the power of AI in applications ranging from 5G radio access networks (RANs) to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
“It simplifies the workflow from algorithm design to hardware implementation and enables the rigorous requirements of modern wireless applications,” said Mike Fitton, vice president of Altera.
Comprehensive development tools for deep learning MathWorks provides the Deep Learning HDL Toolbox, which supports the implementation of deep learning neural networks on FPGA hardware. We provide engineers with the best solutions.
This tool helps users customize high-performance deep learning processors and deploy them on FPGAs.
Additionally, it supports various networks and layers to increase the flexibility and performance of wireless applications.
Reduce Costs with Efficient AI Integration Altera’s FPGA AI Suite leverages the OpenVINO toolkit to create custom AI inference accelerators based on pre-trained AI models.
This will enable FPGA developers to streamline optimized deep learning processes and efficiently manage network traffic.
“AI-based compression technology will play a critical role in the communications industry,” said Human Jarinkov, senior product manager at MathWorks. “The combination of MathWorks’ powerful software and Altera’s FPGA technology will enable more efficient development of high-performance AI applications and 5G/6G wireless systems.”
