[Editor's Note] Semiconductor devices with wide band gap (WBG) characteristics are gaining attention as a next-generation technology, and products targeting related technologies are appearing one after another in the measuring instrument market. From a product line that emphasizes portability and enables low-speed serial measurements to high-speed serial measurement equipment that covers bandwidths up to 70GHz, such as PCIe, attention is focused on measurement solutions that are like licorice to the electronics industry.

Here, we met with Park Young-jun, director of Tektronix, and heard the related story.

■ Tektronix Measurement Solutions

Tektronix offers a range of solutions, from general handheld oscilloscopes for measuring low-speed serial signals to mid-range 5 Series and 6 Series solutions.

The equipment on display will introduce a total solution, from solutions for measuring high-speed serial, such as USB, to PCI Express for measuring high-speed interfaces.

■ 2 Series Oscilloscope

The 2 Series scope has a bandwidth of 70MHz to 500MHz and is a thin, handheld type scope.

Since it supports battery type, it is a device that can measure for up to 8 hours without power supply when two battery packs are installed.

It is a high-spec handheld type oscilloscope that can capture most signals because its bandwidth can measure signals from 70MHz to 500MHz.

It can be measured via the stand, and the total weight is about 3.6 kg when equipped with two batteries. It can be seen as a very advantageous piece of equipment when conducting actual testing, for example, for end users or when going out to measure in vehicles or on-site.

Although it is a general oscilloscope, it can also support I2C, SPI, and general serial depending on the bus support, so it can be said to be the most suitable solution for educational or automotive purposes.

■ Wide Band Gap DPT Solution

This can be seen as a rather unique solution. In the semiconductor field, SiC and GaN are emerging as hot topics these days. So, in order to see some timing and voltage current characteristics of GaN or SiC devices, there is also a solution for double pulse testing in the solution introduced here, DPT, wide band gap DPT.

Tektronix has launched the DPT solution this time as a solution that can calculate power by calculating general turn-on timing, peak voltage and each Joule value in wide band gap because it can see the timing board as a whole for 2-On 2-Off and peak voltage or any turn-on or turn-off of time.

It can be said to be a very advantageous solution for developing wide band gap or SiC, GaN device characteristics or certain electrical characteristics.

■ Tektronix 70000 Series

There is a strong demand in the market for measuring high-speed serial. So, there is the 70000 series, which is used for measuring display chips, PCIe SSD cards, and DDR memory, and it is also the highest-spec equipment that Tektronix has. The bandwidth of this high-spec equipment ranges from a small 13GHz to a large 70GHz bandwidth.

Among the existing serial interfaces, the most popular ones are PCIe Gen 5 and Gen 6. In the case of PCIe Gen 5, vendors developing SSD cards and leading domestic companies have applied Gen 5 solutions, and compliance tests related to transmitters or receivers are being conducted with Tektronix equipment.
