Integrated front ADAS and driver monitoring system
Ambarella, a U.S. edge AI semiconductor company, announced on the 21st the CV75AX, a next-generation industrial AI system-on-chip (SoC) for in-vehicle telematics systems.
Ambarella’s new AI SoC, CV75AX, provides an ideal solution for AI dashcams that integrate front ADAS and driver monitoring systems. It was emphasized that AI performance has been enhanced by up to two times compared to the previous generation, and that the latest neural network has been applied to increase accuracy and reduce errors.
Another lineup, the CV72AX, supports up to 10 camera channels and supports both Vision Transformer and multi-modal Vision Language Models (VLMs), which deliver up to 6x improved AI performance over the previous generation and instantaneous event alerts.
Both chips feature Ambarella’s latest CVflow 3.0 AI engine, 2x improved CPU performance, 2x improved DRAM bandwidth LPDDR5 support, and high-speed USB 3.2 interface for 5G modems. In addition, it was emphasized that they integrate the latest generation of image signal processor and H.264/5 video encoder to provide multi-channel recording with high image quality.
The Ambarella SoC is manufactured based on Samsung Foundry's 5nm FinFET process, and is said to deliver reduced power consumption and improved performance compared to previous generations.
The CV75AX’s on-chip microcontroller (MCU) core features a new ultra-low power sleep mode that enables the SoC to consume less than 5mW. This eliminates the need for an external MCU to monitor sensors in a parked vehicle without draining the battery, reducing bill of materials (BOM) cost and design complexity.
“Current generation AI SoCs have been widely applied in in-vehicle systems, from fanless AI dashcams that do not obscure the driver’s view,” said Senya Pertsel, SVP of Automotive Marketing at Ambarella. “The new CV75AX and CV72AX go beyond fanless capabilities with enhanced AI performance to support VLM analytics and driver scoring models.”
Meanwhile, the new CV75AX and CV72AX SoCs are both currently sampling.
