Zephyr Project Silver Member Participation

IAR, a leading provider of software solutions for embedded systems development, has joined the Zephyr project, demonstrating its strong commitment to open source collaboration.

IAR announced on the 17th that it will officially participate in the Zephyr Project hosted by the Linux Foundation as a silver member.

This collaboration demonstrates IAR’s commitment to actively supporting the evolution of the Zephyr RTOS and providing professional-grade tools and solutions to the developer community.

Zephyr, an open source RTOS with a small footprint, is particularly well suited for resource-constrained embedded devices and Internet of Things (IoT) applications.

Zephyr is secure, flexible, and scalable enough to support a wide range of applications, and as an open source RTOS, it is continuously improved through the participation of a large community.

Leading semiconductor manufacturers including NXP, Analog Devices, and Nordic Semiconductor also support Project Zephyr.

At Embedded World North America in October 2024, IAR will demonstrate an RTOS-aware plugin for Zephyr, demonstrating seamless integration and advanced debugging capabilities.

This plugin has attracted a lot of attention because it provides in-depth information about the real-time behavior of an application, including task monitoring, scheduling, and resource usage.

This seeks to coexist with the open source ecosystem and provide services to customers. This is considered an important milestone in IAR’s efforts to provide differentiated value.

“Our participation in the Zephyr Project as a Silver Member demonstrates our commitment to actively working with the open source community and leading semiconductor manufacturers to provide industry-leading tools for Zephyr developers,” said Thomas Anderson, chief product officer at IAR.

“IAR’s expertise in embedded development and commercial tools will strengthen the ecosystem,” said Kate Stewart, vice president of the Linux Foundation. “IAR’s contributions will further enhance the capabilities and adoption of the Zephyr RTOS.”

IAR's full support for the Zephyr RTOS is expected to be in product stage in late 2025.

IAR will be demonstrating Zephyr RTOS integration capabilities at Embedded World 2025 in Germany, March 11-13.

Visitors can preview Zephyr RTOS support features at the IAR booth (Booth #4-506) and attend booth seminars to learn how IAR’s Zephyr RTOS support technology can be implemented in embedded applications.
