'Supercomputing Youth Camp' held, supercomputer practice and AI implementation experience
UNIST (Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology) and KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) have jointly established a place to foster future supercomputing talent.
UNIST announced that it will co-host the '2024 8th Supercomputing Youth Camp' with KISTI from July 29 to August 2 at UNIST.
This youth camp was designed to discover outstanding talents in the field of supercomputing and to foster the next generation of scientists. The camp, which started in 2015 and is now in its 8th year, received applications from 199 teams from high schools across the country. Of these, 30 teams were selected, and a total of 90 students will participate.
After learning parallel computing application technology, students will directly practice the entire process of implementing artificial intelligence (AI). There will also be a competition where teams solve parallel computing and AI tasks. The results of the tasks will be comprehensively evaluated and awards will be given to encourage excellent students.
Various lectures have also been prepared to increase interest in science. △Special lectures such as 'AI Utilization in the League of Legends e-sports Market' by UNIST Professor Kim Joo-yeon, 'Artificial Intelligence and Recommendation Technology: The Journey of AI Understanding My Taste' by UNIST Professor Lee Yeon-chang, and 'Application of Artificial Intelligence in Real Life' by Korea University of Technology and Education Professor Lee Hae-yoon are expected to provide new experiences to young people.
“I hope that through this camp, the participating students will experience the potential of supercomputing and grow into next-generation scientific talents,” said Yoo Chun-sang, director of the UNIST Supercomputing Center.
Meanwhile, UNIST and KISTI are operating the 'Winter Vacation AI Team Project Supercomputing Youth Camp' in cooperation with the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education to foster Ulsan-style digital talents starting in 2024. UNIST is continuously contributing to fostering supercomputing talents in the region.
