KT가 27일 국내 첫 5G 기반 음성통화 VoNR(Voice over New Radio) 시범 서비스를 자사 임직원 700여 명을 대상으로 진행했다고 밝혔다.
High-quality calls utilizing 5G standalone mode (SA) infrastructure
KT launches a pilot voice call service using 5G standalone mode.
KT announced on the 27th that it conducted the first domestic 5G-based voice call VoNR (Voice over New Radio) pilot service for approximately 700 of its employees.
5G voice calls (VoNR) are a technology that enables faster connection times and high-speed data transmission during calls than LTE-based (VoLTE) voice calls currently provided by the three telecommunications companies.
5G voice call (VoNR) technology enables high-quality calls based on the characteristics of 5G standalone (SA) infrastructure. Standalone mode uses 5G technology without mixing in LTE networks. It is also expected to become the basis for implementing various services such as metaverse and AR/VR in the future.
KT plans to conduct a pilot 5G voice call (VoNR) service for about 700 employees using the Galaxy S22 series devices, and then reflect the feedback before preparing it as a service for future customers.
KT Network Strategy Headquarters Director Kwon Hye-jin said, “Following the commercialization of 5G standalone mode (SA), KT is taking the lead in the evolution of technologies based on 3GPP standards with this pilot service, thereby enhancing its competitiveness,” adding, “We will prepare VoNR commercial services for general customers in the future to provide more differentiated services based on 5G.”
