First in Korea, China and Japan, defense against hacking, DDoS and ransomware attacks
Hanwha Systems has taken its first step toward global exports, including to the U.S., by obtaining U.S. classification certification for its ship security solutions.
Hanwha Systems (CEO Jae-il Son) announced that its cybersecurity solution, 'SecuAider®', received 'E27 TA (Type Approval for Ship Equipment Cybersecurity)' certification from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and received the official certificate from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) at a certification ceremony held at the Hanwha Building in Janggyo-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul on the afternoon of the 20th.
The American Bureau of Shipping E27 certification is a rigorous evaluation process that verifies performance and safety from design, production, operation, and maintenance stages to ensure cybersecurity of ship equipment.
E27 TA (Type Approved) is a certification granted by major domestic and international classification societies, including the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), when equipment installed on a ship is deemed to meet all 41 requirements for cybersecurity and can be sold in the global market.
In fact, this is the first time that among the three countries leading the global shipbuilding industry, Korea, China, and Japan, a ship cybersecurity solution has been certified. SecuAider® first obtained certification from the Korean Register of Shipping (KR) in December last year.
Marine equipment that has received the American Bureau of Shipping E27 TA certification will be eligible for export and supply to various global shipyards and shipping companies certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), including the world's largest shipping company, Denmark's Maersk, and Swiss shipping company MSC.
The International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), which includes major global classification societies such as American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Norwegian Register (DNV), Lloyd's Register (LR), and Korean Register (KR), has mandated that all ships under construction contracts from July 24 be subject to cybersecurity certification.
Hanwha Systems' SecuAider® is a security solution that defends data and networks used by ships from advanced cyberattacks such as hacking, DDoS attacks, ransomware, and malware infections. It is installed and linked to major ship equipment and network devices.
It analyzes and controls cyber situations in real time without compromising ship operation, and provides functions such as AI-based anomaly detection and threat blocking, and real-time remote response.
It was developed entirely with domestic technology based on Hanwha Systems’ top-level ship system development capabilities and many years of information and communication technology (ICT) security solution development know-how. It boasts high compatibility and flexibility as it can be immediately linked to domestic and foreign commercial ship equipment currently in operation.
A Hanwha Systems official said, “Based on our SecuAider® technology, which has been certified as a world-leading cybersecurity solution, we plan to contribute to strengthening the security of various domestic and international merchant vessel lineups and smart ships for the defense industry, and seek export routes to major overseas markets including the U.S.”
