Wide range of applications from mass-produced products to cutting-edge designs
Satisfying low power consumption by reducing external MCU and additional memory usage
Nordic Semiconductor, a global leader in low power wireless connectivity solutions, today announced the launch of a new range of advanced Bluetooth LE SoCs that offer increased efficiency and exceptional processing performance to address a wider range of use cases in ultra-low power wireless applications, easing developers’ SoC choice.
Nordic today announced the launch of new products in its nRF54L series of wireless SoCs: the nRF54L10™ and nRF54L05™.
Together with the previously announced nRF54L15™, the three nRF54L Series devices integrate CPU, memory, peripherals, a 2.4 GHz radio, and MCU functionality onto a single ultra-low-power chip, supporting a range of applications from simple, high-volume products to more sophisticated, advanced designs.
Key applications include wearable devices, smart rings, game controllers, HID devices, as well as medical devices, smart home, and industrial IoT products.
The nRF54L15 is suitable for applications that require higher performance, while the nRF54L10 and nRF54L05 are suitable for smart tags, electronic shelf labels, Suitable for high-volume applications such as asset trackers and other cost-sensitive IoT devices.
All nRF54L Series SoCs feature an Arm® Cortex®-M33 processor with a clock speed of 128MHz and an ultra-low-power 2.4GHz radio. Designed to support advanced application software and wireless protocol stacks on a single chip, they reduce the need for external MCUs or additional memory.
The nRF54L15, which offers the largest memory capacity in the series, features 1.5 MB of non-volatile memory (NVM) and 256 KB of RAM, making it suitable for applications that require more performance.
The nRF54L10 is a mid-range device offering 1MB of non-volatile memory and 192KB of RAM, while the nRF54L05, with 0.5MB of non-volatile memory and 96KB of RAM, is optimized for simpler, more cost-sensitive applications.
This product series features up to 35 GPIOs and is available in an ultra-small 2.4 mm x 2.2 mm WLCSP package option, which is 50% smaller than the comparable nRF52840 product. Additionally, all nRF54L series products are available in a pin-compatible 6 mm x 6 mm QFN package, allowing for more flexible design and manufacturing cost optimization.
Additionally, with expanded memory options and an integrated low-power RISC-V coprocessor, this product series can support advanced application requirements without additional external components, reducing the bill of materials (BOM) cost and miniaturizing the design.
The nRF54L series supports Bluetooth LE, Bluetooth Mesh, Thread, Matter, Zigbee, Amazon Sidewalk, and 2.4GHz proprietary protocols, and offers enhanced features including data rates of up to 4 Mbps.
It also supports Bluetooth 6.0 including Bluetooth Channel Sounding.
The nRF54L Series takes the industry-leading nRF52 Series to the next level by doubling the processing performance and tripling the processing efficiency, all while reducing power consumption.
These new products build on Nordic’s deep design expertise, including unique intellectual property (IP) such as low-leakage RAM and advanced wireless technologies.
Additionally, ultra-low power capabilities and processing efficiency are further enhanced by the leading move to the 22nm process node (TSMC’s 22ULL® technology), while Nordic’s supply chain resilience is also significantly enhanced.
In addition, it supports essential advanced security requirements by integrating features such as TrustZone isolation, Tamper Sensor, and enhanced encryption accelerator for the most important security in the design.
Nor“Nordic is reaching a significant milestone with the launch of the nRF54L Series. As the world’s largest supplier of Bluetooth LE solutions, this new family of wireless SoCs once again solidifies Nordic’s position as a leader in low power wireless technology,” says Oyvind Strom, Senior Vice President, Short Range Wireless Technology at DIC Semiconductor. “By expanding the series to include the nRF54L10 and nRF54L05 alongside the nRF54L15, we are able to support a wider range of Bluetooth LE and IoT applications with greater flexibility and greater energy efficiency.”
The nRF54L15 is currently sampling to select lead customers. The nRF54L15, nRF54L10, and nRF54L05 are all scheduled for full volume production later this year.
