It has been two weeks since Samsung Electronics released its all-in-one washer/dryer, the 'Bespoke AI Combo.' Samsung Electronics is putting everything into securing the title of AI home appliance by differentiating itself from other companies in that the 'Bespoke AI Combo' is an integrated washer/dryer but has secured the performance of a standalone washer and dryer.

Samsung Electronics held a press conference on the 11th and introduced the new features of Bespoke AI. The Bespoke AI Combo was released on February 24th in a dark silver steel color with a metallic material, and the factory price is 3,999,000 won. According to officials, the Bespoke AI Combo sold over 1,000 units in three days and 3,000 units last week.

Samsung Electronics DA Business Division CX Team Leader Lee Moo-hyung, Vice President, said, "In order to overcome the structural limitation that the performance of an integrated washer/dryer is bound to be lower than that of a standalone dryer, we reviewed all existing design methods from the beginning and are introducing this product after three years."

■ Large-capacity heat pump method...powerful drying performance

Samsung Electronics cited the following as the differentiating factors of the Bespoke AI Combo: △powerful drying performance, △optimal energy efficiency, and △versatile AI hub.

The Bespoke AI Comfo has a washing capacity of 25 kg and a drying capacity of 15 kg, which is 2 kg more than LG Electronics’ Signature model. Samsung Electronics said, “It can dry a king-size comforter in one go and wash and dry 17 shirts (3 kg) in just 99 minutes,” and “We will further shorten this time in the future.”

Samsung Electronics focused on implementing the same performance as a standalone dryer by applying a ‘large-capacity heat pump.’ It is explained that the optimal component design was applied while being equipped with the highest level of efficiency inverter heat pump method according to dryer standards.

'Heat pumps' are mainly used in washing machines, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers, which change the temperature and humidity of the air through the circulation of refrigerant to remove moisture from clothes. In a washer/dryer, dry air circulates inside the drum to dry the laundry, and the moist air that has passed through the laundry passes through a heat exchanger to remove moisture, thereby achieving dehumidification.

The hot air drying method of existing integrated washer-dryer products had the disadvantage of taking a long time and not drying well, but to overcome this, Samsung Electronics completely changed the internal structure and installed a large-capacity heat exchanger equivalent to a 21kg dryer. This allows it to dry 6kg of laundry at the level of a regular dryer. Samsung Electronics said, "The heat exchanger increases the contact area of the circulating air, allowing the laundry to dry better," and "The heat exchanger is the most important in a dryer because the larger the engine, the greater the heat exchange performance."

Samsung Electronics has optimized the heat pump, which was previously located at the bottom of the dryer, for the top of the Bespoke AI Combo. The automatic detergent dispenser, which was previously located at the top, has been relocated to the bottom. The dust filter at the top can be removed and cleaned.

In addition, a hybrid drying cycle was applied. It is designed to be used in parallel with the digital inverter of a general dryer and to be equipped with a heat pump and heater in combination. It is explained that if a heat pump is used together with a heater, the drying performance can be maintained without deterioration even when installed on a veranda where the temperature drops to -5 to -10 degrees. The combined use of a heater and a heat pump quickly increases the initial temperature inside the drum and then performs low-temperature drying to optimize energy use.

In addition, Samsung Electronics secured drying performance by developing 24 patented 'tub-integrated air circulation structure' and its own drying algorithm that minimizes heat loss during drying. Although the integrated washer/dryer has a higher component density than the separate type, the tub-integrated air circulation structure has overcome this structural limitation.

■ High-efficiency inverter, optimal energy efficiency

Another strength of the Bespoke AI Combo is that it secures optimal energy efficiency. Inverters are a technology that converts electricity to control voltage and frequency. The high-efficiency inverter compressor applied to the Bespoke AI Combo enables precise control through motor speed adjustment, thereby increasing energy efficiency and improving product performance.

SmartThings AI saving mode also helps save energy. If you set AI saving mode in SmartThings, you can reduce energy usage by up to 60% when washing and up to 30% when drying. AI can automatically learn according to usage patterns and environment and set energy saving mode. The 'Ecobubble' function creates bubbles to wash quickly and cleanly even in cold water, and reduces damage to fabrics by up to 60%.

Samsung Electronics added, "The Bespoke AI Combo is rated 1st in energy efficiency, with power consumption per 1kg of laundry being 40% lower than the minimum standard for 1st grade energy efficiency."

In addition, the Bespoke AI Combo has functions such as △minimizing fabric shrinkage by setting the drying temperature to a maximum of 60 degrees △direct water power auto clean function (cleaning the heat exchanger with a strong stream of water). In collaboration with detergent company PNG, the company also created the 'Persil Course' to improve detergent performance.

The AI function of Samsung Electronics Bespoke AI Combo enhances user convenience. First, it is equipped with a MEMS sensor that senses the weight of clothes, dirt, fabric, detergent usage, and horizontal abnormality as an AI function. In addition, a ball balance (vibration control device) that implements the library noise level with 51.7DB vibration noise has been added.

In particular, Samsung Electronics emphasized its ‘Screen Everywhere’ by introducing the ‘AI Hub’ implemented with a 7-inch wide LCD display. With the AI Hub, all home appliances in the house are connected, allowing each product to be controlled by touch and voice. This means that home appliances will be connected to doorbells and other devices in the home based on Matter standards, marking the arrival of the ambient era.

Samsung Electronics said, "Based on the same chip and Tizen OS installed in the Samsung Family Hub refrigerator, the product connects to SmartThings to support smart device control and multimedia use." For example, you can check the space in your home with 'Map View', and you can also receive TV, phone calls, and text messages and watch videos. It is also connected to multimedia and can be controlled by voice as well as by touch with Bixby installed.

Samsung Electronics said, "It can also be connected to the Galaxy S24 series and utilize generative AI functions such as the S24's LLM (Large Language Model)," and "AI functions and specifications will be improved in the future."

Samsung Electronics said, "Based on domestic cases, we plan to enter the US and Southeast Asia within the second quarter, and are considering adding lineups in the future."
