Samsung Electronics has unveiled the Galaxy A series of budget smartphones that highlight a new security platform.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 11th that it had unveiled the Galaxy A35 and A55 5G smartphones in its global newsroom. According to industry sources, prices and release dates have not yet been provided, but Samsung Electronics estimates that the A35 will be released in the UK for around $434 (about 560,000 won) and the A55 for around $562 (about 730,000 won). In the UK, both models were mentioned as having a release date of March 20. The domestic release has not been decided yet.

The Galaxy A series, which is being released globally this time, is the successor to the A34 and A54 released last year. While there are many predictions about the Galaxy A35 and A55, it is expected that each model will be equipped with the Exynos 1480 chip and Exynos 1380 AP.

Both models have a 6.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, which is slightly larger than the 6.4-inch A54, and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. They support the ‘Vision Booster’, which automatically adjusts color, contrast, and brightness depending on the user’s surroundings, which was equipped on the Galaxy A54. They also have IP67-rated water and dust resistance and the same battery capacity of 5,000mAh. The weight is 209g for the A35 and 213g for the A55 respectively.

The Galaxy A55 is likely to be equipped with 12GB of RAM, which is 4GB more than the 8GB of the standard model of the premium line Galaxy S24, which is the first mid- to low-priced smartphone.

The Galaxy A55 has a high-pixel count on its ultra-wide camera and front camera. The Galaxy A55 has a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera, while the A35 has an 8-megapixel lens. The Galaxy A55 has a 32-megapixel front camera, while the A35 has a 13-megapixel lens. Both main cameras have a 50-megapixel lens.

Additionally, both models can compensate for camera shake using OIS (optical image stabilization) and VDIS (video digital image stabilization).

Samsung Electronics emphasizes its Knox security platform in this new series. It explains that the integrated HW/SW security and encryption functions have been upgraded to 'Samsung Knox Vault' and that real-time threat detection is possible.

The Galaxy A series smartphones can be organically connected with the Galaxy Fit 3, Galaxy Watch 6, Galaxy Buds FE, etc.

Meanwhile, there was a lot of interest in whether Samsung Electronics' popular products would also have on-device AI, but foreign media reported that they would not include generative AI functions in order to differentiate them from premium phones such as the Galaxy S24 series. The AI function in the Galaxy A55 is expected to remain at a level where it can implement low-light images even in poorly lit environments with AI 'image signal processing (ISP)'.

“With the Galaxy A series, we are expanding our reach to more people by making our latest technologies available to them,” said TM Roh, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics’ MX Business. “We are excited to open up more possibilities for the Galaxy A series this year, including offering Samsung Knox Vault for the first time on this lineup. We are proud to enable Galaxy A series users to enjoy an exceptional mobile experience safely and securely.”
