SK Materials CEO Lee Yong-wook, a materials technology specialist, has taken the lead in ESG activities for environmental protection.
SK Materials announced on the 26th that President Lee Yong-wook participated in the 'ZERO Disposable Products Challenge'.
The 'ZERO Disposable Products Challenge' is an eco-friendly campaign launched by the Ministry of Environment in February with the aim of protecting the environment by reducing the use of disposable products and increasing the use of reusable products in daily life.
This campaign is carried out by having participants post a photo or video on social media of themselves expressing '1' (for disposable products) and '0' (for zero) with their hands, meaning 'not using disposable products', and then nominating the next participant.
SK Materials, Inc. is implementing carbon reduction management by having its executives and employees, including the CEO, reduce the use of disposable products in their daily lives, such as using reusable/refillable containers, using mugs/tumblers, using shopping carts, and refraining from using paper documents.
In 2022, we will actively implement carbon reduction management such as △healthy walking/healthy bicycle use △stair use △public transportation/carpooling when commuting △zero leftovers △low-carbon meals △recycling used phones, etc., and reduce carbon emissions by 114,000 kg.(Average monthly reduction of 9,500 kg of carbon)
In 2023, the 'Carbon Reduction Championship' event was held and member participation was expanded, recording an average monthly carbon reduction of 14,700 kg (cumulative 132,500 kg as of the end of September), a 54% increase from the previous year.
SK Materials CEO Lee Yong-wook said, “Reducing the use of disposable products and carbon reduction activities are important efforts for the Earth,” and added, “SK Materials will continue to take the lead in creating a clean Earth through active ESG management practices with its members.”
President Lee, who participated in this campaign at the nomination of SK Magic President Kim Wan-sung, recommended SK Siltron President Jang Yong-ho and Decant CEO Kim Sang-wook as the next challenge participants. Decant is a beauty brand that manufactures eco-friendly cosmetics using discarded wine byproducts as raw materials, and is a social venture selected for the STAXX Project, which is being promoted by SK Materials in 2022 to revitalize the economy of cities with declining local governments through youth entrepreneurship.
