Vision Recognition Technology-based FCW (Forward Collision Warning) Embedded System Technology

Through this seminar, we would like to introduce recent technology trends in lane recognition technology (LDW, Lane Departure Warning) and forward collision warning technology (FCW, Forward Collision Warning), as well as technologies held by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute. In terms of vehicle electrification and intelligence, not only sensing technology using vehicle sensors but also image recognition technology using cameras are essential requirements for developing vehicle safety and convenience systems. The LDW and FCW technologies developed by the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute are technologies that recognize lanes and forward vehicles using a single camera in a method similar to Israel's Mobileye, which holds approximately 70% of the global market share. The technology is characterized by extracting vehicle feature information to detect vehicle position using images, and after detection, deriving the distance to the vehicle based on the lane position on the road, vehicle position, and vehicle size. As it is implemented in the form of a software algorithm, integration with existing navigation and black box systems is possible. Therefore, it can be described as a vehicle embedded system technology capable of supplying not only the BM (Before Market), which is the final target market, but also the AM (After Market) market.
