Introduction to Graphene, a Dream Nanomaterial, and Low-Cost, High-Quality Graphene Mass Production Technology
Graphene is a material composed of a single layer of hexagonal carbon, and it is an advanced material with superior characteristics including high strength and electron mobility among existing materials. However, mass production technology for uniform single or few-layer graphene has not yet been developed globally. The issues regarding graphene uniformity and mass production are critical challenges that must be resolved for industrialization. Graphene exhibits various characteristics depending on the exfoliation method, and the graphene manufacturing method to be introduced this time is chemical exfoliation. Generally, the Hummers method is used for chemical exfoliation. This method has limitations in controlling interlayer insertion speed, explosion hazards, and issues with high-viscosity sample handling. Our graphene materials team at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute has confirmed control of interlayer insertion speed, control of explosive reactions, and continuous production possibility through a reactor utilizing shear stress. Through this, we have taken a step forward in high-quality graphene mass production. In this webinar, we plan to present demonstrations related to graphene mass production using a shear stress reactor in an easy-to-understand manner.
