Battery Charging Solution with Automatic Buck-Boost Control for Simultaneous AC and Wireless Charging (15-Minute Technical Session)

Recent trends show an increasing adoption of USB PD, which enables maximum 100W charging in mobile devices such as notebooks, allowing for standardization of charging connectors. Additionally, there is a growing trend of simultaneously applying both wired and wireless charging methods.

On the other hand, when handling a wide range of power levels such as USB PD, for example, to charge a 2-cell battery (=8.4V) from a 5V charger, it was necessary to add a step-up function to the system. Furthermore, to simultaneously apply two charging methods, it was necessary to mount a charging IC and external components, and control charging switching via a microcontroller, which presented significant implementation challenges.

In this seminar, we introduce battery charging ICs designed to meet the environmental requirements for such dual-channel charging systems. We will provide detailed explanations of internal design considerations required for actual engineers and introduce the versatile kit for these applications in detail.
