RTOS Getting Started! - Lecture 1. RTOS Basic Terminology and Scheduling

This webinar introduces what RTOS is by working through FreeRTOS, which can be considered the leading representative of Open RTOS that is popular among engineers these days.

Previously, microcontroller control programs (firmware) for small-scale applications were written based on Non-OS without an operating system. As the IoT era approaches, microcontrollers are becoming increasingly complex with connections to processors, control systems, and communication infrastructure such as the Internet, and are demanding advanced features like file systems and GUIs similar to PCs. 

While these features can be developed using Non-OS-based firmware, doing so can result in complex programs and may cause issues in design, implementation, and more importantly, in management and team-based tasks. A small-scale OS called RTOS helps drive development projects more easily and quickly, targeting Non-OS firmware.
