Dual interface EEPROM is an EEPROM with a standard I2C interface that supports communication with most microcontrollers or ASICs, and a standard ISO15693 RF (radio frequency) interface that supports wireless communication with RFID readers. The ISO15693 protocol is a passive RFID technology that enables data read/write from RF systems, and requires no additional power when operating in RF mode, making it possible to wirelessly process product data and parameters without opening the box. Recently, as NFC functionality has become a standard feature in smartphones, they have become capable of serving as RF readers. When dual interface EEPROMs with both RF and I2C serial interfaces are integrated into electronic devices, they enable simple data communication with smartphones, providing significant benefits to the design of many electronic products.
