From Smartphones to Home Appliances: Implementing Capacitive Touch with Infineon's PSoC™ Microcontroller

2022.06.21 10:30~12:00 이진용 부장 / Infineon

"Touch sensor" – the capacitive touch sensor (Capacitive touch sensor) is now found everywhere in our daily lives, from smartphones to wearables, vehicle HMI, home appliances, and even office printers.

Infineon's PSoC™ microcontroller, commonly known as a touch sensor, includes a capacitive touch block.

Infineon's touch solution has grown alongside the domestic mobile phone market since the early 2000s, evolving from a simple "button" method that detects the presence or absence of a finger touch, to "slide touch," "touch screen," and even "proximity sensor" that can detect without direct contact.

Infineon's newly launched PSoC™ 4100S Max series applies the 5th generation touch algorithm "Multi-Sense Converter (MSC)," improving SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) by up to 10 times compared to conventional capacitive touch sensing.

Additionally, by utilizing the MSC block, it is now possible to detect not only simple capacitive sensing but also changes in current, resistance, impedance, and inductance.

Furthermore, with embedded 5 SCBs (Serial Communication Blocks – UART, SPI, I2C), 12-bit SAR-ADC, and 8 TCPWMs (Timer Count PWM), it can be applied as the main MCU in multi-sensor hub applications, not just as a simple touch sensor.

Through this webinar, we will introduce the general MCU functions of Infineon's PSoC™ microcontroller, which you may know as a touch sensor, present Infineon's touch solution, and introduce the newly applied 5th generation touch sensor features. We look forward to your participation.
