LTE CAT-M1, Azure IoT Central Connected Car Concept Development

The latest automobiles are advancing toward the connected car concept, featuring vehicles that maintain constant connectivity.
With automobiles and networks always connected, users can access vehicle services anytime, anywhere, maintain vehicle software up-to-date through OTA (Over The Air) firmware updates, and purchase and add necessary features on demand. We are living in an era where automobiles are no longer merely a means of transportation but become the subject of services.
However, such connected car technology is limited to the latest vehicles.
In the case of existing automobiles, connecting vehicle-related functions to a network is generally not straightforward, and methods such as Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or Bluetooth cannot provide continuous network connectivity.
Connection must be achieved through a network service capable of continuous connectivity, so the only conclusion is cellular communication methods such as LTE and 5G. Without connecting through communications like LTE and 5G, it is impossible to create an environment where the network is accessible from anywhere.
Another important factor is the requirement to connect to an authenticated network system.
Due to the nature of moving vehicles, the stability of the network system is a non-negotiable element. Particularly when implementing control functions rather than state monitoring, if the system is not trustworthy, users would need to continuously manage, review, and improve all security threat factors, which is practically impossible.
Therefore, in this webinar, using an LTE CAT-M1 embedded modem, Vodafone Global IoT Sim, Azure IoT Central service, ESP32, and Arduino, we will develop a connected car concept that enables vehicles without the latest connected car services to maintain constant network connectivity and allow easy feature expansion of connected cars even without specialized knowledge of MCUs.
