Fundamental Principles of MEMS Microphones and Selection Methods for High-Performance Microphones Aligned with AI Trends
Microphones are actively used as audio input interfaces between people and devices across diverse applications ranging from consumer electronics such as mobile phones, wireless earbuds, cameras, notebooks, and AI speakers, to smart home appliances, security systems, and robots.
Moreover, with recent advances in AI and voice recognition technologies, the importance of high-performance microphones is increasingly growing not only for natural sound recording but also as an interactive recognition interface between devices and users.
Accordingly, compared to conventional ECM microphones, MEMS microphones offer relatively smaller form factors and high performance that enables very uniform management of microphone performance and quality while improving audio recognition performance in systems, leading to rapid market growth and increased emphasis on their importance.
In this webinar, we will examine the basic components and operating principles of MEMS microphones, and also introduce key performance specifications to be considered in system design including sensitivity, noise, Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), and Acoustic Overload Point (AOP).
Infineon's MEMS microphone solutions are provided in ultra-compact package sizes that enable seamless system design, and can be applied with automated processes through reflow soldering. Additionally, with very low inter-component sensitivity and phase variations, flat frequency response extending to low frequency bands, and low distortion levels even at high sound pressure levels, they provide ideal solutions for various devices utilizing voice user interfaces.
